Starting this month, premium economy passengers flying Air France from Canada and the U.S. are in for a tasty treat.

New dishes created by Michelin-starred Chef Frédéric Simonin will now be served on all routes from North America to France.

“For Air France customers, I have carefully selected products to enhance them with delicacy and precision, offering each passenger a special culinary experience,” said Simonin.

Here are the details.

Air France’s New Premium Economy Meals

Air France has an existing collaboration with Michelin-starred Chef Frédéric Simonin for premium economy meals, with all flights departing from Paris (CDG) featuring his curations. However, the airline has reserved these elevated premium economy meals for only a few routes departing from elsewhere and arriving in Paris.

Until now, these meals were served exclusively from outstations at Cayenne, French Guiana (CAY); Fort-de-France, Martinique (FDF), Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe (PTP); and Reunion Island (RUN) in the Indian Ocean.

As of this month, this will be extended to its premium economy cabins departing from North America. Air France connects 21 airports in Canada and the U.S. with nonstop flights to Paris.

This represents a huge investment by Air France, which will have had to make significant changes with its caterers at its North American gateways.

New dishes include scallop and asparagus pasta in a pearl sauce, and a porcini mushroom and hazelnut gnocchi pasta bake.

The move is in line with Air France’s goal of elevating its premium economy experience, which is now known simply as “Premium.”

What Else You Can Expect From Air France Premium Economy

Having flown Air France premium economy a number of times myself, I can vouch for it being one of the better offerings in its class.

Air France offers actual Champagne as a welcome drink on select routes, full 3-course meals with proper cutlery, vintage wines, and more. Plus, on day flights from Paris scheduled for over 9 hours and 20 minutes, the crew passes through the cabin with French-made artisanal ice cream.

This includes Air France’s nonstop flights to Atlanta (ATL), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), Phoenix (PHX), San Francisco (SFO), and Seattle (SEA).

Hot Tip:

For even more space when flying Air France’s premium economy, seek out flights operated by its fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners and some older, non-retrofitted Boeing 777-200s. The cabins feature hard-shell seats, so when the person in front reclines, their seat doesn’t encroach into your space.

Final Thoughts

Air France continues to roll out improvements to its premium economy cabin. We’re looking forward to trying these meals for ourselves, and we believe it won’t be long before the airline improves the second meal served before landing.
