For years, travelers have wondered if Airbnb would roll out a loyalty or rewards program, but the company has largely stayed reluctant. Now, signs suggest Airbnb could be moving closer to launching some kind of membership offering, especially as the platform deepens its push into hotels.

While nothing is official, the hints point to a program that may reward frequent guests in ways that align with Airbnb’s unique brand, rather than copying traditional hotel loyalty schemes.

Here’s what we know so far.

Airbnb’s Potential Membership Program: What We Know

Airbnb is currently evaluating loyalty programs, a source close to the company told Skift, and insiders say development is underway. Details of this potential program were first reported by Skift, highlighting early signs that something could be in the works.

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky has described a loyalty or membership program as “very compelling” for the company, noting a competitive disadvantage versus traditional hotels and online travel agencies.

For starters, and unlike traditional points programs, Airbnb’s potential program is expected to focus on perks rather than earning points. The signs point to an Airbnb loyalty or membership program offering travelers benefits such as discounts, waived fees, early check-in, or exclusive access to select homes.

The potential program would also help Airbnb compete with hotel loyalty programs, like Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, and leverage Airbnb’s ownership of HotelTonight, the app that specializes in last-minute hotel bookings. Perks or discounts through HotelTonight could lure hotel travelers to book on Airbnb, giving them a taste of the platform while also showcasing its vacation rentals.

Essentially, HotelTonight gives Airbnb a way to offer hotel stays without building a traditional hotel loyalty brand, and a membership program could use the app to deliver instant benefits like discounts or exclusive offers.

Additionally, Chesky has repeatedly downplayed traditional hotel points programs, suggesting we may see a membership-style setup — more like Amazon Prime or mycitizenM+ — rather than a standard loyalty program.

While there’s no exact timeline for when a program might launch, Chesky has said he “absolutely thinks you should see something from us in the future. Not imminently, but in the future.” That statement suggests a loyalty- or membership-style program is likely on the horizon, even if details and timing remain uncertain.

Hot Tip:

It’s possible that Airbnb could tie future perks to HotelTonight, such as offering discounts on Airbnb stays after booking a hotel. If this happens, first-time Airbnb guests might see extra value. For now, it’s purely speculative.

Final Thoughts

While Airbnb has yet to confirm any loyalty or membership program is definitely coming, the signs are strong that something is in the works. Frequent Airbnb users have long hoped for a way to be rewarded for repeat bookings, and this could finally be a step in that direction.

Travelers should view this as a potential shift in how Airbnb rewards guests — one that focuses more on perks and experiences than traditional points. For those who rely on Airbnb for both vacation rentals and hotels, this potential program could be a valuable way to maximize the value of every booking.

That said, we don’t know when this potential program will launch or the exact details of what it will offer to members, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on it. And we’ll definitely update once more concrete information about an Airbnb membership or loyalty program becomes available.
