This is big news for American Airlines AAdvantage members. Starting next year, complimentary Wi-Fi will be available across the majority of the airline’s fleet.

AA plans to offer free internet on more than 2 million flights beginning in January 2026 in partnership with AT&T.

This has been a long time coming, as AA has fallen behind the competition when it comes to staying connected in the air — in both speed and price.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Free Wi-Fi Sponsored by AT&T

American Airlines has announced that starting in January 2026AAdvantage members will have access to complimentary Wi-Fi on more than 2 million flights per year.

To make free internet a reality, AA has partnered with AT&T to “connect more planes than any other domestic carrier.”

The free Wi-Fi will be available to AAdvantage members on aircraft equipped with Viasat and Intelsat high-speed satellite connectivity, which makes up about 90% of American’s fleet.

And since the American Airlines AAdvantage program is free to join, all passengers should be able to get online for free.

Our customers greatly value staying connected while in the air, whether communicating with friends, getting work done, checking in on social media, or streaming their favorite subscription services. We’ve been working diligently to outfit our aircraft with best-in-class high-speed Wi-Fi and, together with AT&T, are proud to offer those services at no cost to our most loyal customers.

Over the past months, American has been testing a limited-time complimentary Wi-Fi service on select flights. Plus, the airline is working on outfitting more than 500 regional jets with high-speed internet by the end of 2025. So that means some passengers may get a preview of what’s to come.

For loyal members of other airlines, like Delta and JetBlue, free Wi-Fi is nothing new. Heck, even United is rolling out high-speed Starlink internet this spring. However, for American Airlines AAdvantage, this is welcomed news as onboard internet has been an expensive pain point for frequent travelers.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines has announced that free Wi-Fi is coming to 90% of its fleet starting in January 2026.

The complimentary internet will be available for American Airlines AAdvantage members, but since the program is free to join, all passengers will be able to get online without paying exorbitant fees.

If you have tried surfing the web on an American Airlines flight and have been shocked by the cost, good news is on its way.
