American Airlines and Hyatt Are Ending Their Enhanced Partnership

Well, that was a short-lived experiment. Less than 2 years after American Airlines and Hyatt rolled out one of the more creative airline-hotel partnerships we’ve seen, both companies announced today that they’ve mutually decided to wind it down.

If you took advantage of the ability to earn Hyatt perks through American’s Loyalty Point Rewards or grab American benefits through Hyatt’s Milestone Rewards, there’s still time to lock in some value. However, the clock is ticking, and the deadlines aren’t far off.

Here’s what you need to know about the soon-approaching deadlines.

What’s Changing With Hyatt and American Airlines?

American Airlines and Hyatt confirmed today that they’ve agreed to end their enhanced relationship. That means the deeper integration of the 2 programs that launched in 2025, which let members earn crossover benefits between the 2 rewards systems, is going away.

The most important date to know is November 15, 2026. To keep earning cross-program rewards during the wind-down, your accounts need to be linked by 11:59:59 p.m. Central time on that date. If you haven’t linked yet and you have elite status with either program, do it now. It takes about a minute, and there’s no reason to leave rewards on the table.

After the deadline passes, you won’t be able to link new accounts to salvage any of the enhanced benefits. The programs will still exist, obviously, but the cross-program benefit choices are on their way out.

What You Can Still Earn (and When It Ends)

There is some good news: If you link your accounts before November 15, 2026, you can still earn benefits through this partnership — though not forever.

AAdvantage members who link their accounts by the deadline can keep earning World of Hyatt awards through Loyalty Point Rewards through February 28, 2027. That means Hyatt Explorist status, Category 1-4 free night awards, and Category 1-7 free night awards are all still on the table if you hit the qualifying Loyalty Point thresholds by then.

On the flip side, World of Hyatt members who link by November 15 can continue earning AAdvantage awards through Milestone Rewards through December 31, 2026. American Airlines Gold and Platinum status, Preferred Seat coupons, and Main Cabin Extra coupons remain available as Milestone Rewards choices for the rest of this Hyatt qualifying year.

There is a benefit that’s sticking around: AAdvantage members can still earn 500 AAdvantage miles instead of World of Hyatt points on eligible Hyatt stays by providing their AAdvantage number at check-in. This benefit predates the enhanced partnership, and it will continue even after the broader relationship ends. Whether it’s worth trading Hyatt points for a small mileage haul is another question, but the option is there.

The end of this partnership is a bummer for anyone who liked the idea of mixing and matching benefits between American and Hyatt. It was one of the few genuinely creative loyalty partnerships in recent memory, and it gave elite members flexibility they couldn’t get anywhere else.
