Before we start talking about how to earn World of Hyatt elite status, there are a few terms you should know:

Qualifying Nights: A qualifying night is one in which a member stays at a participating Hyatt hotel and pays an eligible rate or redeems a free night award. This generally includes any nights you book directly through Hyatt (nights booked through third-party sites like Expedia or Hotels.com are disqualified). Qualifying nights can also be earned through the World of Hyatt card and World of Hyatt Business card.

Base Points: A base point is earned through qualifying World of Hyatt spending. You’ll earn up to 5 base points per $1 spent at Hyatt properties regardless of your elite level.

Milestone Rewards: Milestone Rewards aren’t necessarily tied to elite status. These are bonuses awarded after you reach different levels of qualifying nights or base points. Scroll down for more information about Milestone Rewards.

Hot Tip: Hyatt counts free award nights (aka nights booked with World of Hyatt points) as qualifying nights which means they count toward elite status. This includes nights that are booked with Category 1-4 or Category 1-7 free night certificates.

How To Earn World of Hyatt Elite Status

You can earn Hyatt elite status in 3 ways — qualifying nights, base points, or meetings/events accumulated during the calendar year.

Once you earn Hyatt elite status, you’ll keep that status through February of the second calendar year following qualification. For example, if you earn Discoverist status in September 2024, it would be valid through February 2026.

If you earn 1,000,000 lifetime base points, you’ll earn lifetime Globalist status.

Bottom Line: You can earn Hyatt elite status through qualifying nights or base points or meetings/events. Once you earn status, it will be valid through February of the second calendar year after qualification.
