Travelers flying through Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) can expect a significant upgrade in the coming years, especially if they are flying American Airlines.

American Airlines and the DFW Airport just unveiled plans for a larger, state-of-the-art terminal, doubling down on the current construction plans of Terminal F.

The expansion plans call for more gates, facilities, lounge spaces, parking, shops, dining, public art, and more — and an accelerated timeline.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Terminal F at DFW

In 2023, American Airlines and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) initially agreed to construct Terminal F, which would feature 15 gates and access to Terminal E via the Skylink system.

As DFW continues to grow, the project has been expanded to $4 billion and extends AA’s Use and Lease Agreement with DFW through 2043. The new agreement will provide passengers with a state-of-the-art terminal with double the number of gates, more premium space, and a new lobby with dedicated check-in space.

The expanded project will now feature a walking connection to Terminal D, a new Skylink station, and a parking garage with built-in curbside circulation and an innovative baggage drop and check-in area.

DFW is American’s largest and most critical hub, and with this expanded plan for Terminal F, DFW has a clear path to become the largest airline hub in the world. Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, and we’re excited that American and North Texas will continue to grow together. Terminal F will elevate our customer experience in a big way, providing customers with a fantastic new facility and state-of-the-art amenities. We thank Mayor Johnson, Mayor Parker, the rest of the DFW Airport Board, and Sean and the DFW team for their partnership. We’re excited for the future at DFW and all the growth that’s to come in North Texas.

The original first phase of Terminal F is already under construction and scheduled to open in 2027.

American Airlines plans to occupy all of the gates at the new terminal, which will create a more seamless experience for connecting passengers.

Other American Airlines Upgrades

American has been busy lately in an attempt to improve the passenger experience.

From free Wi-Fi onboard starting in 2026 to a new Flagship Lounge in Philadelphia, travelers will soon find positive changes in the sky and on the ground.

Plus, the airline is tweaking existing policies like the boarding process and even how they collect headphones in premium cabins.

Although AA has a long way to go to catch up (in terms of customer experience) to competitors like Delta and even United in some aspects, things are trending in the right direction.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines is betting big on DFW with a $4 billion investment and terminal expansion. Passengers can expect to see big changes within the next few years when flying through Dallas-Fort Worth.
