American Airlines has launched an exciting new route to one of the most beautiful islands in the Bahamas.

Here’s what you need to know about the route and how to book it!

Eleuthera Becomes American’s Sixth Bahamas Destination

American Airlines has launched 2x weekly service between Miami (MIA) and Governor’s Harbour, Eleuthera, Bahamas (GHB).

Passengers arriving at GHB will see improvements to the airport’s departures and arrivals terminals, which underwent “expansions and upgrades,” according to the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

“This new route marks our next step as we continue to expand American’s presence in the Caribbean and Atlantic, where we are proud to lead as the largest U.S. airline,” said José María Giraldo, American Airlines Managing Director of Operations for Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America.

Giraldo went on to say that the airline will now offer up to 30 peak-day flights to the Bahamas, an island nation of more than 3,000 islands, cays, and islets in the Atlantic Ocean.

The route will be served by American’s Embraer 175, with flight time blocked at 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Bahamas is located just 50 miles off the coast of Florida, and in our experience, it’s typically a quick hop to the islands under an hour in duration.

Bottom Line:

This becomes American’s sixth Bahamian destination, following North Eleuthera (ELH), Nassau (NAS), Freeport (FPO), George Town (GGT), and Marsh Harbour (MHH).

Booking American Airlines Flights to Eleuthera

Flights are now on sale and bookable via aa.com.

You’ll find cash flights as low as $274 round-trip (in economy) or $866 (in business) for dates in May.

But if you have American Airlines AAdvantage miles, this is the perfect way to redeem them. That’s because award tickets are as low as 25,000 AAdvantage miles round-trip in economy or 45,000 miles in business. If you’re running low on AAdvantage miles, you can earn them through flying on the airline, through credit card welcome bonuses, the AAdvantage eShopping portal, and more.

You can also use British Airways Avios to book, starting at 16,500 Avios round-trip in economy. If you’re trying to book a business class seat, using Avios is your best route, as tickets start at 33,000 Avios round-trip.

Avios are among the easiest currencies you can earn, as it is a transfer partner to 5 major programs: Amex Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One Miles, and Marriott Bonvoy.

Final Thoughts

What exciting news for South Florida and Bahamas residents, who now have a nonstop route to Governor’s Harbour in Eleuthera. While service is only 2x weekly, the low prices in cash, miles, or Avios make this route worth checking out if you plan to visit the Bahamas!
