Joint venture (and Oneworld alliance) partners American Airlines and Qantas have announced an expansion across the Pacific that will bring more flights and increased capacity on routes between the U.S. and Australia.

“The strength of our partnership with American Airlines continues to bring great benefit to our customers around the world. We know Australia remains very popular with U.S. travelers, and these changes will provide increased connectivity onto our vast domestic network to some of Australia’s most unique destinations,” said Cam Wallace, Qantas Group CEO of international.

Let’s look at the details of this exciting increase in service to one of the world’s most coveted destinations.

American, Qantas Add Capacity on U.S.-Australia Routes

There are 3 main components of this joint announcement from American and Qantas:

  • New seasonal service on American Airlines between Los Angeles (LAX) and Brisbane (BNE)
  • A seasonal increase to daily service on Qantas’ route between Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Melbourne (MEL)
  • An increase in capacity on Qantas’ existing flights between DFW and Sydney (SYD)

American Airlines will launch nonstop flights between Los Angeles and Brisbane on December 5, 2025. This route will operate 3 times weekly on a seasonal basis, with flights operating through the end of January 2026. Tickets will be available for purchase on May 12, 2025.

When American adds service for the winter season, it means that it and Qantas together will offer up to 7 weekly flights between L.A. and Brisbane.

Also, as of October 26, 2025, American will resume its seasonal service between DFW and Brisbane. Even better, this route will be operated by the airline’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, equipped with new cabins and the brand-new Flagship Suites in business class. Qantas will also operate its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners on the route.

Qantas is also adding capacity to better serve the U.S.-Australia market in conjunction with American. The Australian carrier first added nonstop service between American’s mega-hub at Dallas-Fort Worth and Melbourne in 2022. This winter, it will increase its service, operating daily from December 3, 2025, through the end of January 2026.

Finally, Qantas will operate its superjumbo Airbus A380 on all of its flights between Dallas-Fort Worth and Sydney, starting in January 2026.

Final Thoughts

American and Qantas say they provide access to almost 70 destinations via 4 principal gateways in the region: Auckland (AKL), Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.

The latest round of route additions and capacity increases between the 2 carriers will give passengers even more options for accessing the region and further solidifies their position as the leading carriers for service between the U.S. and the South Pacific.
