Recently, the terms of a popular credit on the American Express® Business Gold Card changed. Then the changes disappeared.

As we’d suspected, the changes had been revealed early, but Amex wasn’t ready to confirm anything then. Now we know for certain that American Express is set to remove FedEx as an option on the Amex Business Gold card’s monthly spending credit.

As of now, you can use this monthly credit at FedEx, Grubhub, and office supply stores after enrolling in the benefit. As of October, the list will get shorter.

Here’s what we know so far.

How Amex Business Gold Card’s Monthly Spending Credit Works

Among its list of benefits, the Amex Business Gold card offers up to $240 in statement credits annually. You need to enroll for this benefit, and afterward, it’s available as up to $20 per month. You can receive statement credits at eligible purchases at FedEx, Grubhub, and office supply stores.

These are the only purchase categories that qualify for the monthly spending credit, and the maximum annual benefit is up to $240 in statement credits.

FedEx Being Removed From the List

In a series of updates sent by American Express earlier this year the updated information for the Amex Business Gold card changed to say that FedEx is an option for the monthly statement credits until October 1, 2026. No other explanation was given.

Within hours, Amex said that information was incorrect and to ignore it. As we assumed at the time, this change is, in fact, coming — it was just revealed earlier than intended. A spokesperson for American Express provided the following statement:

As always, American Express continues to evaluate our offerings and is committed to providing Card Members with exceptional service and benefits that help them run and grow their businesses. Enrolled Card Members will continue to be able to use the $240 Flexible Business Credit for eligible purchases at Grubhub and Office Supply Stores. We will share additional updates when more information is available.

We’ve reached out to American Express for clarity. Right now, our questions are these:

  • If FedEx is removed, will something else take its place?
  • Is this a just-in-case end date that might be extended, like we’ve seen with other perks for cardholders?

As of publication time, American Express hasn’t responded.

Final Thoughts

We’re hoping that something will replace FedEx when it’s removed from the merchant list for the Amex Business Gold card‘s flexible spending credit. Dropping from 3 to 2 options would be disappointing.

We’ve seen American Express add end dates to perks and then extend them in times when Amex wasn’t sure a benefit would stick around and wanted to ready people for the worst. It’s possible we could see that here. Then again, we might see FedEx replaced with something else.

At a minimum, if FedEx is your preferred merchant for using the $20 spending credit on your Amex Business Gold card each month, take note that it’s set to go away on October 1, 2026.
