The Centurion Lounge features spa services run by Exhale in select locations, creating an enjoyable escape for travelers. These services typically feature massages, facials, and various treatments aimed at helping you relax before your flight.

Many travelers, like myself, have had the opportunity to receive a much-needed massage at the Centurion Lounge spa, which helps to kick off a flight in a relaxed manner.

Now, American Express has made the decision to shut down every spa in its lounge network due to overcrowding, as first reported by AwardWallet and later confirmed by The Points Guy.

Let’s take a look at the details of this news.

Amex To Close Spas at Centurion Lounges

One of the most popular amenities at Amex’s swanky Centurion Lounges since its inception has been its onsite spa. Guests holding any of the following cards are eligible to access Centurion Lounges upon enrollment and enjoy a spa treatment:

Among the Centurion Lounges network, only Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Miami International Airport (MIA), and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) feature onsite spas. However, these locations will soon replace the spas with more seating for lounge guests.

While it’s undeniable that Centurion Lounges are immensely popular among travelers, overcrowding has become an ongoing issue, with eligible cardholders facing long lines that prevent them from gaining access.

Nonetheless, the spas within the Centurion Lounges are quite limited in size (it’s essentially a small room), leaving uncertainty about how many additional seats Amex can incorporate into the existing spa area to effectively address overcrowding.

Bottom Line:

Amex is set to close its Centurion Lounge spas at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Miami International Airport, and Los Angeles International Airport, replacing them with additional seating to address overcrowding issues.

Final Thoughts

Amex is set to close its Centurion Lounge spas at 3 airport locations: Dallas-Forth Worth, Miami, and Los Angeles. It’s disappointing to see the loss of a favored amenity at an airport lounge, especially considering the significant annual fee for access. However, we can only hope that this decision to alleviate overcrowding proves to be successful.
