The American Express® Green Card is set to lose a key benefit in January. The annual LoungeBuddy credit will go away, and there’s no word yet on whether anything will take its place.

If you have this card or were considering it, here’s what you need to know about the change to a key benefit on the Amex Green card.

Amex Green Card Losing LoungeBuddy Benefit

The Amex Green card has a $150 annual fee , and that fee is justified by the card’s key benefits (rates & fees). These include up to $199 in reimbursement for your annual CLEAR Plus membership and up to $100 in annual LoungeBuddy credits to reimburse your lounge visit payments.

Both benefits require enrollment before using them, but these 2 benefits combined have made it easy to justify the card’s annual fee year after year.

However, the Amex Green card is losing one of those key benefits: The LoungeBuddy Credit will end on January 13, 2025. If you currently hold the Amex Green card, you’ll only see the ending date once you open the LoungeBuddy benefit window to read further details.

What if you don’t have the card? If you check the Amex Green card’s application page, you won’t see any mention of the LoungeBuddy benefit on the front page. However, if you open the card’s benefit description terms, you can find this notice: “Effective January 13, 2025, the $100 LoungeBuddy Credit benefit will no longer be available.”

Will anything replace the LoungeBuddy benefit? That remains to be seen. So far, American Express hasn’t listed any new benefits on the public-facing or cardholder-facing pages for the Amex Green card.

We also reached out to American Express, and a spokesperson didn’t mention any additions while confirming the removal of the LoungeBuddy benefit. This response came after the article was originally published.

Hot Tip:

The LoungeBuddy benefit was a key reason my wife got the Amex Green card recently. We’ll need to reassess our credit cards when this marquee benefit goes away.

Final Thoughts

The Amex Green card is losing a key benefit on January 13, 2025. If you were considering this card — or already have it — you may need to recalculate the value of this card’s perks going forward and reevaluate whether they justify the annual fee.

The information regarding the American Express® Green Card was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.
