Along with a new travel app, American Express is rolling out some big changes to its standard mobile app.

User-friendly updates include the ability to tap a new card to confirm and activate it, cross-platform linking to show your Resy and Amex Travel bookings, and even a guided setup process to ensure you know about all of your card’s benefits — including an easy enrollment process.

What’s new in the Amex mobile app? Let’s take a look.

New Amex App Features Available

Starting on September 18, 2025, users can download or update their Amex mobile app to receive the latest version with a host of new features. The mobile app is available for both iOS and Android.

The first difference users will notice is the ability to choose a light mode or dark mode for the app. You’ll also notice that the home screen has changed completely. It’s no longer focused on your account balances and payment dates, instead highlighting the bigger picture of your card with overviews of rewards, upcoming trips, and shortcuts to your card’s benefits.

And a handy new feature includes the ability to tap a new credit card to confirm it — rather than needing to fill out lots of information.

After confirming a new card, cardholders will also be able to use a guided setup to learn about their card’s features — customized to the particular card you’re activating.

If you’re setting up a consumer card, you’ll see information about those benefits, while customers setting up and activating a small business card will see business-focused items.

One of the most convenient features of the walkthrough is the benefit enrollment section. Some American Express cards have lengthy lists of benefits, and knowing about all of them can feel daunting. Here, American Express shows each benefit in turn, available with a swipe, and an enrollment button is available to activate benefits that require enrollment in advance.

After learning about benefits, customers will complete the account setup with the “traditional” items — things like enrolling in autopay or adding your card to a mobile wallet.

Amex has also made the benefit tracker easier to follow in the app.

This feature shows how much of your card’s available credits you’ve used so far this year, letting you know if you have more of that benefit to enjoy or have maximized the available credits already.

Finally, members working on a welcome bonus offer will see a tracker with straightforward information. This includes your spending target, deadline, and the welcome offer you’re working on.

American Express also revealed some other big changes today, including an overhaul of The Business Platinum Card® from American Express and the Platinum Card® from American Express.

Cross-Platform Functions in the New Amex Mobile App

Along with the typical information about your credit card and payments, the updated Amex mobile app will work with Amex Travel and Resy — the dining platform previously acquired by Amex and that offers benefits on many Amex cards.

Here, you can see upcoming reservations you’ve made with Resy. A single click will take you to the Resy app, which you can use to make or modify reservations.

The same is true about AmexTravel.com bookings you’ve made, which will show up in the app now. Additionally, you can now search for travel in the new Amex Travel mobile app.
