Renting a car can be expensive, but there’s a new Amex Offer that will save you $70 on any Hertz rental that costs $350 or more.

This can be a considerable amount of savings, though there is a drawback to using an American Express card to rent a vehicle, which we’ll get into below.

Hertz Amex Offer Details

This new Amex Offer expires on April 30, 2025, and requires you to spend more than $350 with Hertz to get a one-time $70 statement credit. With Amex Offers, you can spend in multiple transactions, so you don’t necessarily need to spend $350 all at once.

However, Amex cards don’t typically come with primary rental car insurance, so if you add on Amex Premium Protection, this will be an extra cost of $12.25 to $24.95 for each rental period, potentially negating any savings. You should calculate the costs to determine which option is most cost-effective for you.

Your rental must be from a Hertz corporately owned location in the U.S. (such as an airport location). The rental has to be paid by April 30, 2025, so plan to return several days prior, leaving plenty of time for the charge to post onto your card — assuming you didn’t prepay in full at the time of booking.

Additionally, you need to make your reservation directly with Hertz instead of another website or third party. Lastly, this offer doesn’t cover incidentals like tolls or Rent2Buy offers.

Hot Tip:

Consider our guide to the best credit cards for car rental insurance coverage. You’ll have to determine whether the savings from this Amex Offer is worth forgoing any primary rental car insurance you may get from another credit card.

About Amex Offers

Amex Offers provide a statement credit or bonus points after spending with an eligible merchant. However, you need to add the offer to your card before making a purchase and must complete the spending by the deadline listed in the offer.

Each card in your account may be targeted for different stores or amounts, so you’ll want to scroll through all of your cards to see what you’re eligible for or which card may be best for the savings. Then, add the offer to your card before spending.

Final Thoughts

With rental car prices going up, this is a timely offer to save $70 on your next set of Hertz rentals totaling more than $350.

See if it makes sense to charge your rental to your American Express card or if charging to a different card that provides primary rental car protection would be better.
