As we head into the final months of the year, it can be a surprisingly good time to apply for a new credit card. The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card is a great example, as you can earn valuable points and unlock benefits that can help offset travel costs for the next year — while potentially double-dipping on a couple of perks.

This strategy doesn’t work for all cards, but it can be especially valuable for cards loaded with statement credits based on the calendar year rather than your cardmember year. Because several of the Hilton Aspire card’s benefits are structured this way, applying before 2026 ends provides the opportunity to use the initial set of perks by December 31 and receive another set when the calendar resets in January.

Here’s how the strategy works and how you can potentially get up to $250 in additional value from this top-tier hotel card — just by applying before the year ends.

How To Earn Double the Statement Credits

The Hilton Aspire card isn’t just the best card in the Hilton lineup, it’s arguably one of the most rewarding hotel credit cards on the market. Though it charges a $550 annual fee (rates & fees), there are plenty of ways to offset that cost.

The current public welcome offer is the first opportunity to find immense value:

  • Earn 200,000 bonus points after you spend $6,000 in purchases within your first 6 months of Card Membership. Offer ends 01/13/2027.

On average, Hilton Honors points are worth 0.5 cents for award nights, so the welcome offer bonus provides up to $1,000 in value. But the card’s value goes beyond the initial welcome offer, including automatic Hilton Honors Diamond status (as long as your account is open) and an annual Free Night Reward certificate with each card membership renewal.

Beyond these ongoing benefits, a couple of Hilton Aspire card statement credits reset annually on a calendar-year basis. By applying now, you can use these credits before the end of 2026 — then they’ll reset on January 1, 2027, for the new calendar year (enrollment may be required). These benefits include:

  • Hilton Resort credit: Get up to $200 in statement credits semiannually for eligible purchases made directly with participating Hilton Resorts on your Hilton Aspire card.
  • Flight credit: Get up to $50 in statement credits each quarter on flight purchases made directly with an airline, through AmexTravel.com, or through the Amex Travel App with the Hilton Aspire card.

If you can take advantage of these statement credits by the end of the year, you can unlock upward of $250 in additional value compared to applying for a card at any other time of the year. Think of it as a potential $250 bonus simply for timing your application strategically for a card you’ve already been considering.

Hilton Resort Credit

Every calendar year, the Hilton Aspire card provides up to $400 in statement credits for eligible Hilton resort purchases. This benefit is divided into 2 allotments of up to $200 semiannually.

If you apply for the Hilton Aspire card in the final few months of 2026, you could access up to $600 in credits in the first year of card membership rather than the usual amount of up to $400.

  • By December 31, 2026: Up to $200 in credits
  • January 1, 2027, to June 30, 2027: Up to $200 in credits
  • July 1, 2027, to December 31, 2027: Up to $200 in credits

If you’re planning a vacation to one of Hilton’s resorts next year, this could be an easy way to squeeze an additional $200 in value from the card. While the resort credit only applies to purchases at eligible properties, there are more than 300 participating locations.

The resort credit not only covers eligible purchases such as food, beverages, and parking, but can also be applied to eligible room rates, provided they’re not prepaid.

Flight Credit

The Hilton Aspire card provides plenty of hotel rewards and perks, but it also helps you save money on other aspects of travel. Every calendar year, the card provides up to $200 in flight credits, broken up into up-to-$50 quarterly allotments:

  • By December 31, 2026: Up to $50
  • January 1 through March 31, 2027: Up to $50
  • April 1 through June 30, 2027: Up to $50
  • July 1 through September 30, 2027: Up to $50
  • October 1 through December 31, 2027: Up to $50

Applying before the year ends allows you to lock in $50 in extra credits, and using the flight statement credits is effortless. Simply pay for your flight with the Hilton Aspire card, whether booked directly with the airline or through one of AmexTravel.com’s channels, and receive a statement credit to help offset those costs.

Hot Tip:

The Hilton Aspire card also earns 7x points on eligible flight purchases, making it a rewarding option to turn airfare spend into future hotel points.

Bonus: Hilton Free Night Reward Milestones

Those 2 statement credits alone provide up to $250 in incremental value, but the Hilton Aspire card offers another avenue to maximize your calendar-year benefits.

On your first cardmember anniversary (and every year thereafter), cardholders receive 1 free night certificate that can be used at almost any Hilton hotel with standard reward availability. Plus, the Hilton Aspire card provides the opportunity to earn up to 2 additional Free Night Rewards every calendar year by spending $30,000 and $60,000 on card purchases. These free nights unlock a stay at a Hilton hotel that may otherwise cost thousands of dollars per night.

While those are huge spending thresholds, the Hilton Aspire card provides direct value for travelers who don’t want to apply for new cards every year. If predictable, significant expenses are coming up before 2026 ends, such as estimated tax payments or holiday purchases, knowing where to direct that spending can make all the difference in scoring more award travel opportunities.

On January 1, 2027, the calendar resets, and you can work toward those annual thresholds again to collect more rewards.

Hot Tip:

I’ve earned many Free Night Rewards over the years, and one of my favorite ways to maximize them is to save them for a multiple-night stay. For example, I’ve redeemed 3 certificates for a consecutive long weekend stay at the Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique. Then all I had to book was flights to get there!

Final Thoughts

The Hilton Aspire card offers many useful travel benefits, but many of these statement credits must be used within their designated timeframes. They don’t roll over into the next month, quarter, or even year, so knowing when each benefit resets — and when the best time to apply — can help you maximize the card’s value as much as possible.
