Yesterday, Avelo Airlines dropped a bombshell, announcing it will shut down all West Coast operations and close its hub at Burbank Airport — the carrier’s original launch point.

Now, Avelo CEO Andrew Levy has emailed customers with specific end dates for each West Coast route — and the news isn’t great. Some routes will end within 30 days, while others will operate until Avelo’s full West Coast shutdown on December 2, 2025.

Here’s what travelers should know about the end dates for Avelo’s West Coast routes.

The State of Avelo’s Flights in the West Coast

Avelo Airlines, the low-cost carrier that launched in 2021, provided surprising news yesterday when it confirmed it will end all West Coast flights by December 2025.

By December 2, the airline will move all 3 of its aircraft stationed at the Hollywood-Burbank Airport (BUR) in southern California over to the East Coast. Those planes will begin operating flights on the East Coast instead.

And since those planes are used to support all of Avelo’s flights in the western U.S., the shutdown of the Burbank hub has ripple effects — not least of those being the end of all other flights in the region.

While we knew Avelo would end its western operations by December 2, we didn’t expect some of these routes to stop flying within 30 days. This is an abrupt announcement for customers on the West Coast who counted on these routes — or who had flight reservations that will now be canceled.

In an email to customers, Avelo’s CEO shared the dates the airline will stop serving its western destinations. Here they are in order from soonest to latest:

Hot Tip:

If your flight is affected by these would-be cancellations, you can log in to the “Manage Trips” section on Avelo’s website to cancel it. You’ll have the option to receive a full refund to your original payment method or a future flight credit. For most West Coast travelers — who will no longer have nearby Avelo service — the refund is likely the better choice.

Final Thoughts

Avelo’s latest update is likely to frustrate already-upset customers. After yesterday’s surprise announcement, the airline has now released specific end-of-service dates for its West Coast routes — and some are coming much sooner than expected.

Affected customers should request refunds from Avelo and then look for alternative travel options.
