A trip to Tahiti is a dream for many travelers, but flights to French Polynesia are often so expensive that the destination is out of reach.

Thanks to some newly available award space combined with Capital One’s current transfer bonus to Qantas Frequent Flyer, you can currently book flights from Los Angeles to Tahiti on Air Tahiti Nui for fewer than 25,000 Capital One miles each way in economy class.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Award Alert — The Details

Right now, there’s an abundance of Air Tahiti Nui economy award space between Los Angeles (LAX) and Tahiti (PPT) available through Qantas Frequent Flyer for just 29,000 Qantas points each way. This was first noticed by The Points Guy.

Here’s how much it will cost and how you can book it:

  • Class: Economy
  • Route: Los Angeles (LAX) to Faaʻa International Airport in Tahiti (PPT)
  • Cost: From 29,000 points plus $59 in taxes and fees
  • Travel dates: July 2026 through February 2027
  • Award seats: Up to 4 passengers per route in economy

We’re seeing wide-open award availability in economy class for up to 4 seats between Tahiti and Los Angeles (LAX) from this summer through early 2027. To find dates and routes that work for you, use a tool like Seats.aero or Roame.Travel to see all of your options at once.

While Air Tahiti Nui award space itself isn’t uncommon, what really makes this deal stand out is Capital One’s 20% transfer bonus to Qantas Frequent Flyer, which drops the effective cost to less than 25,000 miles each way.

In other words, instead of needing to transfer the full 29,000 Capital One miles for this redemption, you’d only need to move over 24,166 miles, thanks to the current transfer bonus, to end up with the required 29,000 Qantas points. That means you’re effectively flying to Tahiti for fewer than 25,000 Capital One miles each way. Just remember that you have to transfer in increments of 1,000.

The flights are operated by Air Tahiti Nui’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which offers a pretty comfortable way to cross the Pacific — especially for an economy redemption at this price point. The airline also includes free meals, drinks, and checked bags in economy, which makes the experience feel much more full-service than many long-haul economy flights today.

Plus, once you land in Tahiti, you can easily continue onward to islands like Bora Bora or Moorea using separate regional flights.

Best Ways To Book

Once you’ve found your ideal flight and travel dates, you’ll want to confirm that the award space is available directly through Qantas Frequent Flyer before transferring Capital One miles.

After confirming availability, you can transfer your miles to Qantas and book the economy award directly through the program. Availability is pretty generous, with dates ranging from this summer through February 2027, including availability for up to 4 passengers on many dates.

Award flights should price at 29,000 Qantas points each way, meaning the current 20% Capital One transfer bonus lowers the required transfer amount to 25,000 Capital One miles per person.

If Tahiti, Bora Bora, or Moorea has been sitting on your travel bucket list for years, this option is one of the more affordable ways we’ve seen recently to get there using transferable points.

Hot Tip:

Don’t have any Capital One miles? You can also transfer points to Qantas Frequent Flyer from American Express Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou Rewards at a 1:1 ratio, though you’ll need the full 29,000 points per person without the current Capital One transfer bonus. Marriott Bonvoy points also transfer to Qantas at a 3:1 ratio, though that’s a much less attractive option.

Final Thoughts

Usually, we’re writing about flashy business-class award space to far-flung destinations, but when you can get to a notoriously expensive destination like Tahiti for fewer than 25,000 miles each way, it’s absolutely worth highlighting.

If you don’t mind flying economy across the Pacific, this is an excellent deal. Best of all, the points and cash you save on these flights can help fund that overwater bungalow once you finally make it to Bora Bora or Moorea.
