Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Whether you’re heading to London for sightseeing, nightlife, football, or museums, there’s something for everyone. And you can redeem your miles to fly there in comfort.

And good news for you: we just found plenty of award availability on multiple airlines throughout the first half of 2025 and beyond.

Here’s a look at the current availability to fly to London in business class using your Alaska Airlines or Etihad Airways miles.

Award Deal — Details

If you’ve been itching to cross the pond but want to do so in style and comfort, we’ve found plenty of availability in business class for you. You have the option of flying with American Airlines, JetBlue, or British Airways…but we don’t recommend BA in this situation as taxes and fees will be much higher.

  • Class: Business
  • Route: Atlanta (ATL), Austin (AUS), Baltimore (BWI), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Montreal (YUL), New York (EWR, JFK), Seattle (SEA) or Washington, D.C. (IAD) to London (LHR)
  • Cost: As low as 45,000 miles per person, plus $19 in taxes and fees
  • Travel Dates: September 2024 to August 2025
  • Award Seats: Up to 9 passengers per route

American Airlines and British Airways operate numerous routes between the U.S. and London. While British Airways’ new business class is superior, the taxes and fees on these awards are painful.

Thus, we suggest flying with American Airlines for much less cash out of pocket. You will still pay the same amount of miles—just 45,000 miles per person— but just $19 in taxes and fees.

This 45,000-mile pricing is available out of Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. Thanks to a recent change in Alaska Airlines’ award charts, this is cheaper than what these awards used to cost.

While that brought good news for those on the East Coast, it was bad news for those on the West Coast. You’ll pay 70,000 miles per person for flights from Los Angeles to London.

Luckily, Alaska Airlines’ website makes it easy to view an award calendar.

Alternatively, you could use Etihad Guest miles and fly JetBlue’s new Mint business class product, which gets rave reviews.

It would cost 80,000 Etihad Guest miles and $32 to fly from Boston to London in JetBlue Mint. While that may be a big jump, it is generally easier to earn Etihad Guest miles compared to Alaska MileagePlan miles.

How To Book

Your best bet is booking with Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan for any awards that price at 45,000 miles (East Coast) or 55,000 miles (center of the U.S.) per person in business class. From the West Coast, you’ll be better off booking through American Airlines AAdvantage to pay 57,500 miles per person.

Aside from credit cards that earn Alaska miles, you also can transfer points from Bilt Rewards to boost your Alaska Mileage Plan balance.

For American Airlines, numerous credit cards earn American Airlines AAdvantage miles. Marriott Bonvoy points also transfer to American, but this happens at a 3:1 ratio. For example, if you transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to American, you will receive 20,000 miles plus a 5,000-mile bonus, for a total of 25,000.

Hot Tip:

If transferring points from Bilt, they should post instantly to your Alaska Airlines account. You may need to log out and log back in to your account to see the balance posted.

Final Thoughts

If you’re heading to London — or have now decided that you are, thanks to this alert — there’s great availability flying American Airlines’ business class. From the West Coast, book directly with American. From the East Coast, you’re better off booking with Alaska Airlines to save some miles.
