Ever wanted to fly to Madrid? Although Iberia’s business class isn’t the best in the world, it’s solid and offers a lie-flat seat across the Atlantic. Even better, it’s bookable on nonstop routes from just 34,000 Avios — or from 29,000 points when using a transfer bonus.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Award Alert — The Details

These awards are available through Iberia Plus, which uses Avios.

You can also find flights through Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan for as few as 45,000 miles one-way. Note, however, that flying from further afield, such as Dallas (DFW) or cities in California, raises the price to 55,000 miles per person.

  • Class: Business
  • Routes: Boston (BOS), Dallas (DFW), New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD), Washington, D.C. (IAD), Philadelphia (PHL) to Madrid (MAD)
  • Dates: March 2025 through February 2026
  • Rates: As few as 34,000 Avios one-way

To search for available dates, you can use a tool like Seats.aero, which provides a big-picture overview across a range of dates and airports.

Seats.aero doesn’t show awards from the Iberia Plus program, but any Iberia-operated flights available to partners like Alaska Airlines should be available on Iberia’s site. Once you’ve found a date on Seats.aero, head over to Iberia’s website to check for award availability. If you’re lucky, you’ll score off-peak pricing, which comes in at just 34,000 Avios.

Best Ways To Book

The best way to book these flights is by redeeming Iberia Plus Avios. Luckily, Avios are extremely easy to earn. British Airways, Qatar Airways, Finnair, and Aer Lingus all also use the Avios program, along with Iberia, meaning you can transfer Avios between programs freely and instantly.

Because of this, you can get Avios from basically all flexible point currencies, including transfers from American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Citi ThankYou Points, Capital One Rewards, Wells Fargo Rewards, and Chase Ultimate Rewards.

These normally transfer at a 1:1 ratio, but both Amex and Chase are offering a 20% transfer bonus when transferring to Avios. That means you only need to transfer 29,000 points per person to book these awards, assuming you transfer by March 31, 2025!
