Starting August 23, 2025, Bank of America is rolling out a significant update to how customers make payments to their personal Bank of America credit cards via online and mobile banking.

The overhaul discontinues the use of the bank’s traditional Bill Pay service for these payments — and it will cancel any one-time or recurring payments scheduled on or after that date.

Here’s what you need to know to ensure your credit card payment processes smoothly.

What’s Changing?

In short, Bank of America credit card customers who are accustomed to using autopay for their credit card bills via Bill Pay will have their payments canceled and will need to set them up again using the new “Pay & Transfer” system.

All scheduled payments, including autopay, will be canceled starting August 23.

However, this change only applies to payments made to personal Bank of America credit cards. If you use Bill Pay to pay third-party bills — such as a credit card from another bank or your cell phone bill — those payments will continue uninterrupted.

This is according to a recent Bank of America customer email with the subject line “Starting August 23, we’re changing the way you make payments to your personal credit card…” The update aims to streamline the management of credit card payments within the bank’s online and mobile platforms.

Going forward, customers will use the revamped Pay & Transfer section to make credit card payments. This new system consolidates payment tools in one place, offers improved control over recurring payments aligned with statement dates, and allows the use of external bank accounts for payment.

You’ll also be able to set up new alerts and eBill notifications by enrolling at bankofamerica.com/alerts. That’s because current eBill reminders tied to the old system will also be canceled.

Bottom Line:

Starting August 23, Bank of America will cancel all credit card payments scheduled through its Bill Pay service, requiring customers to set up payments and autopayments through the new Pay & Transfer system to avoid missed payments.

Final Thoughts

While the transition may cause short-term confusion — especially for those who rely on autopay — the long-term goal is greater clarity and control. If you have any payments scheduled to process on or after August 23, be sure to cancel them and set up new payments through the Pay & Transfer system to avoid missed due dates.

For those who’ve found Bank of America’s payment setup clunky in the past, this update might finally deliver the smoother experience users have been hoping for.
