Unfortunately, this bad news isn’t much of a surprise.

Bilt Rewards is following in Chase’s footsetps, making it more expensive to transfer points to World of Hyatt. Starting January 1, 2027, Bilt will transfer to Hyatt at a 4:3 ratio instead of the current 1:1.

If you’ve paid attention to Hyatt over the past year, this move won’t catch you off guard. It’s disappointing, but it’s not a shock.

What’s Changing With Bilt?

Presently, transfers from Bilt Rewards to World of Hyatt use a 1:1 ratio. As of January 1, 2027, that ratio will drop to 4:3. In practical terms, 1,000 Bilt Points will get you 750 Hyatt points rather than a full 1,000. The new rate applies across the board, regardless of your Bilt elite status or which Bilt credit card you hold.

You still have the rest of 2026 to move points at the existing 1:1 rate, so there’s 3 months’ worth of notice here. However, you shouldn’t wait until December 31 to make a transfer. End-of-year rushes tend to overwhelm systems, and a transfer that hangs at the wrong moment could cost you the better ratio. If you know you’ll want Hyatt points for a 2027 trip, transfer them in while the ideal 1:1 rate is still available.

The Bigger Picture of Hyatt’s Recent Changes

This change doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Chase just devalued its own Ultimate Rewards transfers to Hyatt for some cardholders.

As of October 1, 2026, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card holders transfer at 4:3 — a 25% cut from the prior 1:1. Only the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ still offer the the 1:1 rate from Ultimate Rewards.

Since Chase is Hyatt’s co-branded credit card partner, it’s logical that Hyatt’s other transfer partners would move in the same direction.

Hyatt has been squeezing from the award side, too. Earlier in 2026, the program shifted to a 5-tier redemption structure per category (Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, and Top), and the cost of top redemptions climbed by as much as 67%.

Put together, this is a bad pair of changes: Fewer points land in your account on the way in, and more points are required to book on the way out.

None of this points to a program getting more generous. Hyatt is clearly trying to earn more from its loyalty currency, and transfer partners are one lever to pull.

Final Thoughts

This Bilt devaluation is unwelcome, but it’s the predictable next step in a year of Hyatt tightening the screws. With the award chart changes, the Chase ratio cut, and now Bilt, the direction is obvious.

Move your Bilt Points to World of Hyatt before January 1, 2027 if you have a redemption in mind. You’ve got roughly 3 months to act at 1:1, and there’s no reason to leave 25% of your points behind by waiting.
