The clock is about to strike midnight on the American Airlines status year, and you have until February 28, 2025, to meet your goals for AAdvantage status through March 31, 2026. Luckily, you can earn bonus Loyalty Points between now and the deadline.

Whether you’re purchasing with cash or miles, there’s good news for anyone who still needs more Loyalty Points for the current earning year to enjoy the American Airlines elite status they want next year.

Here’s how it works.

Earn Bonus Loyalty Points on Event Tickets

Through February 28, 2025, you can earn extra Loyalty Points with American Airlines when purchasing tickets to concerts, comedy shows, sporting events, and more. You also can earn AAdvantage miles along the way.

The earning structure is different depending on your payment method:

  • If you pay cash, you’ll earn 2x AA miles and 2x Loyalty Points per $1 spent on tickets.
  • If you pay with AA miles, you’ll earn 500 Loyalty Points per transaction.

You can search for events here. It’s possible to filter events by category and location.

Here are the key terms you should know:

  • This promotion applies to all standard and resale tickets purchased between February 12 and February 28, 2025.
  • If you pay with miles or a mix of miles and cash, you’ll earn 500 Loyalty Points per transaction but will not earn any AAdvantage miles.
  • Standard and resale tickets purchased with cash earn 2x AAdvantage miles and 2x Loyalty Points per $1 spent.
  • Miles and Loyalty Points will be awarded to the purchaser’s AAdvantage account within 30 days of purchase.
  • Loyalty Points earned in this promotion will count toward 2024 qualification.
  • There’s a maximum of 3 transactions per month to earn bonuses with AAdvantage Events.

Is It Worth It?

Earning AAdvantage elite status requires earning Loyalty Points during the annual qualification period, which runs from March 1 to February 28 of each year. If you haven’t met your goal yet for the qualification period ending on February 28, 2025, then every little bit helps.

However, buying event tickets might not be the best way to reach the finish line — and it definitely isn’t your only option.

You can earn AAdvantage status from credit card spending, on paid upgrades, from flying, through travel bookings, and multiple other options. Buying tickets to a concert or event you don’t really want to attend, just for the sake of Loyalty Points, should come as a last resort — after you’ve exhausted earning options from money you actually need to spend.

Hot Tip:

There are even ways to earn Loyalty Points without flying. Check out your options!

Final Thoughts

Through February 28, you can earn extra Loyalty Points with AAdantage Events. Whether you’re paying with cash or miles, you’ve got options to help reach your AA status goals before the qualification year ends — which is happening soon.
