Vero Beach, on Florida’s Atlantic coast, is getting a Breeze Airways base. That means planes parked overnight, hiring local staff, and an expansion of flight route offerings from the Vero Beach Regional Airport (VRB).

This marks the 10th flight base for Utah-based Breeze Airways.

Breeze Airways Creating a Base in Vero Beach

Breeze Airways currently serves 4 airports from Vero Beach: Providence, Rhode Island (PVD), Hartford, Connecticut (BDL), and 2 airports near New York City: White Plains (HPN) and Islip, Long Island (ISP).

Now, the airline plans to expand its operations at Vero Beach, including a flight base and more routes as of October 2024, according to VeroNews.com.

“That means we’ll start hiring flight crews locally,” Breeze spokesman Gareth Edmondson-Jones said, though a specific number of hirings wasn’t certain.

Establishing a base in Vero Beach means more than just hiring ground staff. It also means parking airplanes overnight at the airport and expanding the route network.

“During the peak of last season, Breeze was up to 29 flights per week here, and they had a lot of overnights. So they’d have two or three flight crews staying in hotels in Vero Beach. By having a base here, they don’t have to pay for all those hotel rooms.”

Todd Scher, Vero Beach Airport Director

After launching additional routes to Florida earlier this year, Breeze will add another destination in the greater New York City area this fall. Starting on November 21, 2024, Breeze will fly between Vero Beach and New York Stewart International Airport (SWF), located roughly 70 miles north of Manhattan. Flights will operate on Thursdays and Sundays.

Breeze founder and CEO David Neeleman attributed the additional route to the airline’s success with other flights to the New York City area.

Final Thoughts

Breeze Airways continues to expand its route offerings to and from Florida. This time, that expansion coincides with establishing a base of operations in Vero Beach, on Florida’s Atlantic coast. The airline will expand its operations, hire staff, and launch another route this fall.
