Avelo Airlines made headlines this week with the announcement of its exit from the West Coast market. But fellow low-cost airline Breeze Airways seems to be picking up the slack. Breeze has announced a massive expansion on the West Coast with service to 5 new cities.

Here’s what you need to know.

It’s interesting timing for these new routes as Avelo Airlines announced this week that it will stop flying on the West Coast by the end of 2025.

The low-cost airline had been serving the West Coast since 2021, with its first route out of Burbank. However, Avelo said that “the continuation service from BUR in the current operating environment” wasn’t financially feasible. But there may be another reason for the cuts. The airline has faced massive protests and backlash for operating deportation flights through a contract with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

For its part, Breeze seemed to allude to the Avelo news in its statement announcing the routes.

“We have long been monitoring opportunities to expand our network on the West Coast and hope the news will be a welcome reprieve for travelers in these communities,” said Lukas Johnson, Breeze’s chief commercial officer.

Hot Tip:

Breeze is offering promo fares for the new routes, starting at $39 one-way. Take a look at this page for more details.

Final Thoughts

Breeze Airways is adding flights to the West Coast, coming just days after Avelo, which has had a significant presence in the region, announced plans to end service there. This is quite interesting news, as Breeze will now have a strong foothold in the low-cost market on the West Coast.
