Okay, British Airways, we see you.

In a bumper day for the British flag carrier, we’ve got a lot of updates to look forward to. From details of the full A380 refurbishment to new lounges and a first class check-in at London Heathrow’s Terminal 3, could BA be about to get its swag back?

Let’s take a look to find out.

British Airways’ Refurbished Airbus A380 Interiors

While most airlines are getting rid of their A380s, British Airways is reviving its superjumbos with a tip-to-tail makeover.

With only 12 Airbus A380s, it was a slightly unconventional decision to choose this aircraft to debut all-new cabins rather than its dozens of Boeing 777s or even its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000s.

Considering the latter 2 aircraft types are either fairly new or have recently been retrofitted, the choice of the Airbus A380 does make more sense — especially since these planes have the highly uncompetitive (once-revolutionary) Club World 2-4-2 business class seats.

“From redesigned interiors and upgraded dining to new amenities and service delivery, every detail has been thoughtfully designed with our customers front and centre, helping them to have a more seamless and memorable experience when they fly with us,” said Sean Doyle, chairman and CEO at British Airways.

We’ve known about BA’s new first class for a while, but this is the first insight we’ve had into the full interior refresh. From new seats in premium economy and economy to the largest business class cabin in the sky, there’s a lot to take in.

Here are the updates we can expect, cabin by cabin.

First Class

We first learned of British Airways’ reimagined first class product almost 2 years ago. In what could be a mere matter of a couple of months before its debut, the airline has revealed more details regarding the soft product.

Taking the spotlight is a stunning new amenity kit in partnership with Swaine — the oldest luxury leather goods brand in the U.K.

Available in either royal blue or cream, the new retro-luggage-style kits will enter service on October 6 in first class on BA’s other aircraft.

Passengers will also enjoy a new day blanket, cushion, and pajamas made of cool-touch fabric. These new amenities, including slippers, have already been rolled out in BA’s other first class cabins.

A shake-up of dining in first has also already taken to the skies as of October 1, 2026. The introduction of “From the Grill” is a unique element of BA’s first class that allows passengers to create their own bespoke dish from a selection of meats and sides. This is about as close to dining on demand as BA is likely to get.

BA is also popping the cork on Bollinger La Grande Année Champagne, which can retail upwards of $300. Fans of in-flight spirits will no doubt be happy perusing their at-seat mini bar — a first for BA First.

Hot Tip:

Having recently heard BA crew talking in an airport lounge about rigorous new first class training, passengers in First will hopefully notice a step up in service to match the new aesthetic.

Club Suite (Business Class)

Spanning the entire upper deck of the aircraft, BA’s new A380 business class cabin will be the largest in the skies. The number of seats will increase by 9 from 97 to 106 and will be split across 4 zones within the cabin.

Taking a look at the seats themselves, a lot is changing.

At first glance, the color scheme, patterns, and fabrics have been completely switched up. There’ll be no more white antimassacars; the white stitching and square seat pattern have been replaced by a monotone herringbone design, and the overall look appears to be softer, cozier, and less corporate.

In a press release, BA highlights increased storage. However, comparing the 2 images below, the small cupboard with a closing door has been replaced with an open storage space that now houses headphones. The space, which reminds me a lot of LATAM, actually appears to be smaller than the current Club Suite’s storage compartment…

Business class passengers on BA’s refurbished A380s will also have access to a new Club Kitchen in the galley area from which they can grab snacks and drinks throughout the flight.

The new design brings an elevated level of sophistication and elegance that British Airways desperately needed.

World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy)

Notable updates to the World Traveller Plus seats include privacy wings and larger IFE screens. The images also show each row will have 1 more seat than the A380’s current layout. Moving from a 2-3-2 to a 2-4-2 layout was possible by moving the premium economy from the upper to the lower deck, which is wider due to the curvature of the aircraft.

To accompany redesigned pillows and blankets, premium economy passengers will enjoy new tote bag amenity kits.

World Traveller (Economy)

The all-new economy cabin will feature 215 seats — a reduction of 88 compared to the current layout. Passengers in the redesigned cabin will enjoy wider seats and larger IFE screens.

Given that the huge 105-seater business class will take up the entire upper deck, the 3-4-3-configured economy cabin had to be relocated to the lower deck. This sadly means saying goodbye to the extra spacious economy seats at the back of the upper deck, which were a much-loved hack when flying this plane.

The herringbone pattern and a dash of red as a nod to BA’s Speedmarque logo give the seats a stylish finish.

BA also promises more padded pillows and warmer blankets.

Where Will BA’s Retrofitted Airbus A380s Fly?

U.S.-based travelers will benefit from BA’s retrofitted Airbus A380s the most. Of the 7 global destinations it currently flies to, 5 are in the U.S.: Boston (BOS), Dallas (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), and San Francisco (SFO).

Previously, BA has also flown the jet to Washington D.C. (IAD).

New and Refreshed Lounges Coming to London Heathrow

As part of a larger lounge improvement project, British Airways has revealed plans for a huge new lounge within the C Gates of Heathrow’s Terminal 5. The satellite terminal, which requires an underground people mover to reach it, doesn’t currently offer any lounge access.

“These spaces will take our lounge design concept to the next step, building on Miami and creating a distinctive British Airways look and feel across key customer touchpoints, from First Wing and our lounges to the onboard experience,” said Doyle.

Stand-out features of the space are expected to be a 17-meter bar and sweeping views over the airport.

Construction of the C Gates lounge has already started, and is expected to be complete by the end of 2028.

BA is also introducing a new Concorde lounge, accessible only to passengers flying in first class. The exclusive space will boast a private concierge service and restaurant-style à la carte dining.

BA’s most premium arriving passengers are also in for a nice surprise. The Terminal 5 arrivals lounge is receiving a much-needed makeover, including replacing the hospital-style shower units with ‘premium shower suites.’ For the first time, first class passengers will have a dedicated arrivals experience featuring private cabanas and elegant dining similar to that of the Concorde departure lounge.

A New First Class Check-In Area at Terminal 3

With the addition of a swish new first class check-in area, Terminal 3 should hopefully feel less like a neglected British Airways outpost. As the hub terminal for almost all other Oneworld airlines, including American Airlines, this new check-in area should herald a far more premium ground experience for first class passengers and certain elite status holders.

Details remain limited, but the space is set to welcome its first passengers before the end of the year.

Final Thoughts

Aesthetically, British Airways looks like it hit a bullseye with its new A380 cabins, lounges, and first class check-in area.

It must be said, however, that the cabin improvements will only be available on a very small percentage of the carrier’s long-haul aircraft. If we were to learn that this marked the start of a larger project to harmonize the experience across all long-haul aircraft, then it would be a truly momentous time for British Airways.

For now, we look forward to learning when the first retrofitted A380 will carry passengers for the first time. In the meantime, I truly hope this marks the start of a new era for British Airways — one that fellow Brits and frequent BA flyers can look back on with pride.
