Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

If you are constantly looking to boost your Avios balance like we are, you may be interested in the latest promotion from Aer Lingus.

For a limited time, you can get a 50% bonus when you purchase Aer Lingus Avios — regardless of how many you buy.

That last part may be the most intriguing, as historically these types of sales required you to make big purchases. That’s not the case here.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Buy Aer Lingus Avios Promotion Details

With this latest sale, you can purchase Aer Lingus Avios in any amount from 2,000 to 200,000 and receive a 50% bonus, up to a total of 300,000 Avios.

Normally, you can only purchase a maximum of 200,000 Aer Lingus Avios per year, but that cap was lifted during this offer.

You’ll have until 6:59 p.m. ET on September 16, 2024, to take advantage of this offer if you want to buy Aer Lingus Avios with a bonus.

Although you will still get the 50% bonus on smaller purchases (great for topping up your account), in order to get the lowest cost per point, you will want to purchase 125,000-200,000 Avios.

Prices will vary based on where your account is registered. Image Credit: Aer Lingus

If your account is registered in the U.S. and you’re paying in dollars, you can pay as little as 1.53 cents per Avios. Do note that you need at least 1 Avios in your account to make a purchase, but you can move points from numerous bank programs to accomplish that goal.

Hot Tip:

If your account is registered in the U.K. and you’re paying in GBP, you can pay as little as 1.1 cents per Avios!

Is It Worth It?

We value Avios at 1.25 cents a piece, so unless your account in registered in the U.K., you would be paying more than that. But, if you can get outsized value from them, then it could still make sense to stock up on Avios.

And let’s not forget that you can transfer to other Avios partners, including British Airways, Qatar Airways, Iberia, and Finnair. If you are fairly confident with your redemption skills, you could unlock some discounted travel.

Let’s say you buy the maximum amount of Avios and spend $4,599, you would receive 300,000 Avios. You could do a lot with that.

For example, you could transfer the Avios to Qatar Airways and book a 15-hour flight in the award-winning Qsuites for just 70,000 Avios … 4 times! Or take a round-trip flight with your significant other. And you would still have 20,000 left over. A round-trip flight in Qatar Airways Qsuites can easily cost over $8,000, so you would be paying a fraction of that.

Alternatively, Aer Lingus flights between the East Coast and Ireland can be a downright bargain at 13,000 Avios per person on off-peak dates.

However, you may not need to buy Aer Lingus Avios to enable your upcoming redemption. You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards, Bilt Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Wells Fargo Rewards to Aer Lingus at a 1:1 ratio. You also can earn Avios with the Aer Lingus Visa Signature® Card without needing to purchase Avios along the way.

Hot Tip:

Aer Lingus sells its Avios through Points.com. Unfortunately, this won’t code as airfare on your credit card statement. Instead, use your best credit card for everyday spending to maximize your earnings.

Final Thoughts

Aer Lingus is offering a 50% bonus when you purchase Avios through September 16, 2024.

If used correctly, this could be a great opportunity to stock up on 1 of our favorite points and miles currencies.
