Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

It’s got a long name, some interesting quirks, and probably isn’t the first airline you think of in Star Alliance, but, right now, you can buy EVA Air Infinity MileageLands miles with up to a 30% bonus.

If maximized, you can buy miles for as little as 3.08 cents each, but this offer only runs through September 20, 2024.

Should you buy EVA Air miles with this sale? Let’s take a look at the details.

Buy EVA Air Infinity MileageLands Miles — Offer Details

EVA Air has a notoriously long name for its award program: Infinity MileageLands. Right now, you can buy miles with this Star Alliance carrier for as little as 3.08 cents apiece, thanks to a bonus offer of up to 30%.

This bonus offer only runs through September 20, 2024, at 11:59 a.m. ET.

This is a tiered offer, so you’ll get a better bonus the more miles you buy:

  • 1,000 to 5,000 miles: 10% bonus
  • 6,000 to 15,000 miles: 15% bonus
  • 16,000 to 25,000 miles: 25% bonus
  • 26,000 to 150,00 miles: 30% bonus (3.08 cents)

If you buy the maximum number of miles (150,000), you’ll come away with 195,000 miles for $6,000. That’s a price of 3.08 cents per mile.

There are some terms you should know for this promotion to buy EVA Air miles:

  • You can buy up to 150,000 miles annually.
  • You must buy miles in increments of 1,000.
  • The 30% bonus offer runs through September 20, 2024.
  • Purchased miles are valid for 36 months before expiring.
  • Purchasing in U.S. dollars is typically 2% to 3% cheaper than buying in Taiwan Dollars.
  • You can purchase miles at this link.
Hot Tip:

EVA Air sells miles through Points.com, so the purchase won’t code as airfare on your credit card. Which credit card should you use to buy EVA miles? Use your best credit card for everyday spending or a card with a nice welcome bonus you’re working on right now.

Is It Worth It?

There are some high-quality uses of EVA Air miles, including around-the-world tickets, business class between the U.S. and Europe at 65,000 miles per passenger, and transcontinental business class in the U.S. for 29,000 miles per passenger. Plus, you can get creative with your award bookings, adding open jaws, up to 2 stopovers, or booking one-way awards. You also can change the date of an award booking for free. However, Infinity MileageLands does tack on fuel surcharges on awards, so be wary of those.

It’s also worth pointing out that some award costs can be higher than what you’ll see with partners, so shopping around is important.

But the most critical element for EVA Air awards is that you can’t book an award where more than 50% of the miles were purchased. That really affects the value proposition of purchasing miles here. While it’s helpful for those who need to top up their account for a redemption, it’s not helpful for someone who wants to buy miles because it could be cheaper than buying a flight with cash and paying the full price.

If you’ve got some EVA miles already and want to make a redemption, buying miles could help you cross the finish line. However, there are other ways to earn EVA miles, including transfers from Capital One miles and Citi ThankYou Rewards. Citi transfers are 1:1, though Capital One transfers are 4:3, so bear that in mind.

Final Thoughts

Through September 20, you can buy EVA Air miles with up to a 30% bonus. Should you buy miles? It can make sense if you understand the strengths and weaknesses of this program and are aware of the 50% rule on awards.
