Cardholders of the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ should take notice: Chase has updated eligibility requirements for bookings to receive The Edit statement credit.

This change primarily affects cardholders who have enjoyed maximizing the full $500 credit across 2 consecutive stays.

Let’s explore how Chase has revised the credit terms and how this might affect any upcoming reservations you might have.

What Is The Edit?

The Edit by Chase Travel features a collection of more than 1,400 luxury hotels and resorts and is similar to Amex’s Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, as well as the Capital One Premier Collection. It includes properties across The Edit Hotel + Resort Collection, The Edit All-In Collection, and The Edit Boutique Collection.

Benefits of booking a property through The Edit Hotel + Resort Collection, for example, include elite perks such as:

  • $100 property credit
  • Daily breakfast for 2
  • Room upgrade, subject to availability
  • Early check-in and late checkout, subject to availability
  • Welcome amenity

What Changed With the Chase Travel Credit for The Edit?

The Chase Sapphire Reserve card and Chase Sapphire Reserve Business card both offer up to $500 in annual credits for bookings with The Edit. This is delivered as 2 up-to-$250 credits that can be used at any time during the year for prepaid bookings of at least 2 nights made through The Edit.

When the benefit launched, cardholders could make back-to-back reservations to use both credits across 2 consecutive stays of 2 nights each, up to the maximum credit of $500. However, Chase has now closed this loophole.

In an update to the eligibility requirements to receive the credit, Chase now indicates:

Back-to-back stays at the same property within 24 hours of checkout are considered a single stay, and only the first stay is eligible for the credit.

While the 2 credits for The Edit no longer stack, cardholders can still pair the $250 The Edit credit with the following credits:

  • $300 annual travel credit
  • $250 credit for select Chase Travel hotels
    • Valid on prepaid 2-night minimum bookings at IHG Hotels & Resorts, Minor Hotel Group, Montage Hotels & Resorts, Omni Hotels & Resorts, Pan Pacific Hotels & Resorts, Pendry Hotels & Resorts, Virgin Hotels through December 31, 2026.

Chase notes that all 3 credits can be applied on 1 stay if the reservation total exceeds $800. For example, if you had a 2-night booking at Six Senses Laamu, an IHG resort in the Maldives, the $250 credit for The Edit applies first, the $250 credit for select Chase Travel hotels applies next, and the $300 annual travel credit applies last. You would be able to stack $800 worth of savings against the room rate.

Final Thoughts

Chase no longer allows back-to-back stays to qualify for the 2 annual credits for The Edit. However, there are still opportunities for cardholders to stack 2 other travel credits — the $300 annual travel credit and $250 select Chase Travel hotels credit — to maximize their next luxury hotel stay.
