The Chase Sapphire Reserve® packs a real punch when delivering value as a premium rewards card, and it has gone through several iterations since its initial debut in 2016.

Here’s a quick look at the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, its current and previous welcome bonus offers, and its full list of benefits.

When To Apply for the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card

The best time to apply for a new credit card is a personal strategy that revolves largely around your spending plan. If you have a large purchase coming up and there are valuable welcome bonus offers out there, it may be a good idea to apply for that new card.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve card’s welcome bonus offer is now: Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months. And at our 2 cents per point valuation of Ultimate Rewards points, that leaves you with roughly $1,200 in travel rewards value.

Here’s the full history of the card and its welcome offers:

Chase Sapphire Reserve Card Benefits

The Chase Sapphire Reserve card can be a great fit for someone who regularly travels and can extract value out of the card’s benefits. Here’s what else the card is offering:

  • $300 annual travel credit for travel purchases each account anniversary
  • 10x total points on hotels and car rentals and 5x points on flights when you purchase travel through Chase Travel (after the first $300 is spent on travel purchases annually)
  • 3x points on other travel and dining
  • 1x points on all other purchases
  • Access to Priority Pass Select and Chase Sapphire lounges
  • Up to $120 application fee credit every four years for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or NEXUS, as of October 1, 2024
  • No foreign transaction fees
Hot Tip:

As you’re earning Chase Ultimate Rewards points with the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you may consider pairing with another card that earns the same points. While you can only have one Chase Sapphire card at a time (which means you can’t simultaneously have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card), you can also carry the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, Chase Freedom Unlimited®, or the Chase Freedom Flex℠ at the same time.

Final Thoughts

If you’re able to come up with a plan to hit the minimum spending bonus without overstretching yourself financially, the Chase Sapphire Reserve card is worth considering if you’re an avid traveler.

The card comes with a stiff $550 annual fee, but with the right strategy, you could quickly make up for that from the rewards and benefits of the card.

The information regarding the Chase Freedom Flex℠ was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.
