Citi has extended its promotion, allowing eligible cardholders of the Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard® to earn additional American Airlines AAdvantage Loyalty Points on employee card spending.

The promotion, which allows both primary cardholders and authorized users to earn Loyalty Points from the same purchases, was set to expire on December 31, 2026. However, it has now been extended through December 31, 2028.

Here’s everything you need to know about the promotion.

Citi Extends AAdvantage Promotion

Citi has extended a valuable promotional offer to some Citi business AAdvantage cardholders.

While most travel cards give rewards to the primary cardholder, things are different for the AAdvantage Business card. With the AAdvantage Business card, purchases made by authorized users earn American AAdvantage miles for the company’s business account.

However, Loyalty Points earned are still credited to the individual who made the purchase, allowing eligible employees can accumulate points toward their own American Airlines elite status.

The promotion, now extended until December 31, 2028, also offers an additional benefit to eligible cardholders. For every Loyalty Point earned from qualifying purchases by an authorized user, the primary cardholder also earns the same number of Loyalty Points in their own AAdvantage account, essentially double-dipping.

The promotion only applies to holders of the AAdvantage Business card or other eligible Citi AAdvantage small-business cards. The offer is nontransferable.

Eligibility may change if the card account is closed or the primary cardholder switches to another product. Loyalty Points may take 8 to 10 weeks to appear in the primary cardholder’s account after the authorized user’s points have posted.

What This Means for American Airlines Travelers

For small-business owners who pay employee expenses through Citi AAdvantage business cards, the promotion could make it much easier to earn American Airlines elite status.

Of course, the biggest advantage is the possibility of 2 people working toward elite status simultaneously through the same purchases.

Final Thoughts

Citi has extended its AAdvantage business-card promotion through December 31, 2028, giving primary cardholders a longer window to earn Loyalty Points from employee spending without depriving employees of their own points. Unfortunately, employees will not earn redeemable AAdvantage miles.

For small businesses with high expenses, the promotion offers an excellent way for 2 travelers to earn elite status simultaneously.
