German leisure airline Condor touched down in Miami (MIA) for the first time on Saturday, March 23.

The Frankfurt-based carrier is going head-to-head on the route with Lufthansa — which used to own Condor at one point.

Given Condor’s state-of-the-art jets and reasonable prices, the airline might be worth considering for your next transatlantic jaunt — here’s why.

Miami Welcomes German Leisure Airline Condor

If you’re a relatively frequent traveler around the U.S., you may have spotted one of Condor’s stripey Airbus A330-900neo jets.

The airline’s newest nonstop route between Frankfurt and Miami, which operates 3 times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, has the following schedule:

  • Depart Frankfurt (FRA) 2:30 p.m. — Arrive Miami (MIA) 7:10 p.m.
  • Depart Miami (MIA) 9:10 p.m. — Arrive Frankfurt (FRA) 12:40 p.m. (+1)

In total, Condor operates 4 nonstop year-round services to the U.S. from its hub in Frankfurt: Boston (BOS), New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), and Seattle (SEA).

As the airline serves mainly as a vessel for taking German vacationers abroad, the vast majority of the airline’s U.S. routes are seasonal. These services include Baltimore (BWI), Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), Minneapolis (MSP), Phoenix (PHX), Portland (PDX), San Antonio (SAT), and San Francisco (SFO).

These aren’t just any old jets. Along with their distinct liveries, Condor’s A330-900 jets are known for their sleek dark interiors, up-to-date technology (such as USB-C ports at all seats), and huge IFE screens — even in economy.

That’s a real step up compared to what you’ll find at your economy seat on German flag carrier Lufthansa’s ancient 747-8i jets that operate some of the same routes as Condor — Miami included.

Add into the mix that Condor’s round-trip fares between Miami and Frankfurt are often hundreds of dollars cheaper than those of Lufthansa, and picking Condor is a no-brainer.

Even in business class, what Condor offers is leagues above what Lufthansa can offer with its dated 2-2-2-configured cabins and narrow seats. Another bonus? You can credit Condor flights to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.

Hot Tip:

Even though Condor isn’t part of the Oneworld alliance, you can even redeem Alaska Mileage Plan miles for flights on the German carrier.

Final Thoughts

Miami’s newest year-round service to Germany is all possible thanks to Condor Airlines.

If you’re planning a trip to Germany or Europe in the not-too-distant future, and Condor flies from your home airport, it might be worth comparing the fares and what you get compared to other legacy carriers.
