You’ll soon be able to fly nonstop from Los Angeles (LAX) to Melbourne, Australia (MEL) with Delta Air Lines.

The new route is part of a deal between the Australian government and Delta and was confirmed by Victoria State Government.

The service, which is scheduled to launch in December, will be the Atlanta-based carrier’s third nonstop route between the U.S. and Australia.

Here are the details of this exciting new route.

Delta Launching Nonstop Los Angeles-Melbourne Service in December

Delta will join United and Qantas as the third airline to offer nonstop services between the 2 cities. This move should reduce fares on the route, which is notorious for its sky-high prices, even in economy.

Delta is a member of the SkyTeam Alliance, so when its flights begin, each major airline alliance will have representation on the route between Los Angeles and Melbourne.

The flight will operate 3 times per week departing from LAX on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays with the following schedule:

  • Depart Los Angeles (LAX) 9:25 p.m. — Arrive Melbourne (MEL) 6:10 a.m. (+2)

Flights will depart Melbourne for Los Angeles on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with the following schedule:

  • Depart Melbourne (MEL) 10:25 a.m. — Arrive Los Angeles (LAX) 6:10 a.m.

Delta has yet to add the new route to its booking system, which means there’s still no exact start date for the route and it’s unclear which aircraft will operate the service. However, we’d guess the Airbus A350 will operate the route, as that’s the aircraft type Delta uses for its flights between LA and Sydney (SYD).

As of this writing, tickets are not yet for sale, but continue to check Delta’s website if you’re interested in flying this route.

Hot Tip:

If you’re a Delta loyalist, you’ll want to learn about the best cards for Delta flyers. Any of these could enhance your experience when flying the airline, allow you to earn bonus miles, and get you closer to unlocking Delta Medallion elite status.

Final Thoughts

Delta’s new route from LA to Melbourne will be a great addition to its network. In addition to providing another link between the U.S. and Australia, it will also benefit Australian travelers heading to the U.S. thanks to Delta’s extensive route network from its hub in Los Angeles.

We’ll be back with updates as soon as we learn more about this exciting new route!
