Summer 2024 is nearly over, but Delta Air Lines is already thinking about next year.

The Atlanta-based airline announced its summer 2025 schedule on September 20, featuring its largest transatlantic schedule yet. There’s a lot to cover, so here’s what you need to know.

Big Italy Expansion for Delta

First up, Delta is making significant expansions in Italy next summer, adding new routes and increasing frequencies on existing routes.

Delta will launch daily service from New York (JFK) to Catania (CTA), a port city on the east coast of Sicily. This is a new route for Delta, starting flights in May to a city known for its location at the foot of an active volcano.

The airline will also connect Atlanta (ATL) to Naples (NAP) with 4x weekly service, joining Delta’s New York-based service to the city. Additionally, 4x weekly flights from Minneapolis-Saint Paul (MSP) to Rome (FCO) and Boston (BOS) to Milan (MXP) start next May.

The airline says it will boost service to Italy by over 10% year-over-year.

Other Delta Routes to Europe in 2025

Outside of Italy, Delta is adding other new routes to Europe, with the following beginning in May 2025:

  • Atlanta to Brussels (BRU): 3x weekly
  • Boston to Barcelona (BCN): 3x weekly
  • Detroit (DTW) to Dublin (DUB): 4x weekly

Finally, the airline will increase service from several hub airports to cities such as Athens (ATH), Munich (MUC), and Zurich (ZRH).

“With over 700 weekly flights to 33 European destinations and beyond, we’re expanding access to key cities like Barcelona and Dublin with new routes, while introducing our first-ever nonstop service to Catania, Sicily,” said Joe Esposito, Delta’s senior vice president of network planning.

Bottom Line:

Delta says it will fly more Airbus A330-900 and A350-900 aircraft on the transatlantic routes. These are the best of the best for Delta and feature new Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin.

How To Book

Unfortunately, these flights aren’t available on Delta.com yet, but they will be at some point.

To prepare, make sure you’re stocked on Delta SkyMiles. You can earn a ton of SkyMiles by opening a co-branded Delta credit card, transferring American Express Membership Rewards or Marriott Bonvoy points, or using the SkyMiles Shopping portal.

You can also book Delta flights using miles from its partners, such as Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Air France-KLM Flying Blue.

Final Thoughts

Delta has announced its largest summer transatlantic schedule ever. The airline is launching new routes to exciting destinations, like Catania, and extending its service across the European continent.

This news comes just a few weeks after American Airlines announced its summer routes, indicating that the major U.S. airlines are thinking forward.

While it’s unclear how much tickets will cost with SkyMiles or cash, we’ll be on the lookout for these routes to go live.
