Qantas passengers flying overnight departing Los Angeles (LAX) bound for Australia can now check in for flights several hours before their scheduled departure.

Here’s why this is great news for Qantas passengers leaving LAX.

Early Qantas Check-in At LAX

As confirmed to Executive Traveller by Qantas, the Australian flag carrier will now open check-in at 2:30 p.m. for passengers headed to Australia on overnight flights departing from 9:20 p.m.

It’s often the case that airlines restrict check-in to around 3 hours before departures at airports that aren’t hubs or where there aren’t several flights throughout the day.

Qantas currently operates 3 nonstop flights from Los Angeles, including a 9:20 p.m. departure to Brisbane (BNE), a 10:20 p.m. departure to Melbourne (MEL), and an 11:40 p.m. from Sydney (SYD).

For anyone with an early hotel check-out on their last day in Los Angeles (or further afield in California), they’ll now be able to check their luggage in well in advance of their flight. Now, travelers be free to head out for 1 final day of exploring before heading back to the airport after dinner with no need to check in.

Hot Tip: Late checkout is just one of the many perks of having hotel elite status. You can make early check-out a thing of the past faster by owning one of these hotel credit cards which give you a leg up to climbing through the ranks of certain hotel loyalty programs.

If you’re heading Down Under in one of Qantas’ premium cabins or have Oneworld elite status, then you might even consider spending an afternoon of “WFL” — working from the lounge.

For example, if you’re a Oneworld Emerald or are flying first class to Sydney, then you’ll be able to while away the hours enjoying some wining and dining at in at Qantas First Lounge.

LAX also has a Oneworld business class lounge for Oneworld Sapphire members or those flying business class with Qantas.

If you don’t fall into either of those categories, you could spend several hours before your flight at the American Express Centurion Lounge, which also features a spa! However, to be eligible for entry you’d need to have one of these cards with lounge access in your wallet.

Final Thoughts

Being able to check in from 2:30 p.m. for evening flights with Qantas to Australia from LAX could benefit so many passengers.

Whether it’s leaving bags at the airport early for a final day of exploration or enjoying some pre-flight lounge indulging, you now have the entire afternoon open to you!
