The largest airline in Africa is offering a 20% discount across a large part of its network, including from the U.S.

Ethiopian Airlines, which flies from several North American cities, has just published an offer that could prove attractive for flights to and from many destinations in Africa.

Let’s see what this offer is about.

How Does 20% Off Ethiopian Flights Work?

This offer for 20% off flights is interesting because Ethiopian has a huge network in Africa, offering more destinations across the continent than any other airline.

To get the 20% discount, head to the offer page and enter your dates. Note the following conditions:

  • Origin: From Europe/USA/Canada online points
  • Destination: All Ethiopian destinations
  • Booking: Until May 31
  • Travel validity: From September 15 to November 30, 2025; February 1 to 28, 2026
  • Eligible fare classes: All except O, E (discounted economy), and P (discounted business class)

Until May 31, you can also take advantage of an offer for 20% off flights from any African to any U.S., Canadian, or European destination served by Ethiopian, available for flights on the same dates. This latter offer applies to all fare levels except promotional fares.

In both cases, the 20% discount only applies to flights operated by Ethiopian itself, not codeshares.

Ethiopian is also a member of Star Alliance with United Airlines, so members of United’s Mileage Plus frequent-flyer program can earn miles and Premier qualifying credits on paid fares with Ethiopian.

A quick search for a flight from New York-JFK to Johannesburg (JNB) in South Africa this fall returned a price of $2,147 one-way in business class on some dates:

Ethiopian Airlines is developing a large hub in Addis Ababa (ADD). From there, it serves 6 destinations in North AmericaNew York (JFK)Newark (EWR), Washington, D.C. (IAD)Atlanta (ATL)Los Angeles (LAX), and Toronto (YYZ).

From Washington, Ethiopian Airlines flies its best business class cabin aboard the Airbus A350-1000. Business class on the plane is laid out in a 1-2-1 arrangement, so everybody has direct aisle access. Ethiopian’s Boeing 787s and some A350-900s — the smaller of the Airbus A350s — have a 2-2-2 layout that’s outdated compared to the best business classes today. Note that Ethiopian does not have a premium economy class.

Hot Tip:

You have quite a few options for redeeming points and miles to fly to Africa, as we explain in our step-by-step guide to the best ways to fly to Africa with points and miles.

Final Thoughts

If you’re planning a vacation or a business trip to Africa, the largest airline on the continent is offering 20% off flights.

Ethiopian Airlines is a large airline, run according to the best international standards, and on flights from Washington to Addis Ababa it also has a business class with a great seat. Ethiopian also partners with United, meaning you can earn miles and elite status credits on these flights.
