Intra-European business class has always been a bit of an oxymoron.

For years, it’s been standard for airlines across the continent to block the middle seat in a set of 3 economy-sized seats in the front of an aircraft and call that business class.

For those of us based in the U.S., that was a curious description, since we’re used to airlines offering a proper first class product with wider, more comfortable recliner seats in a roomier 2-2 configuration.

Now, however, a Lufthansa Group airline has begun rolling out a proper business class product for intra-Europe flights — though it’s probably the carrier you’d least expect out of all of the options.

Here’s what you need to know.

Eurowings Installs a Proper Business Class for Intra-Europe Flights

Eurowings, the Lufthansa Group’s low-cost carrier, announced last year that it would trial a true business class product. It was supposed to be available only for a limited time and exclusively on flights to Dubai (DXB).

Now, however, it’s expanding the product to more planes and more routes, including some within Europe.

Eurowings has a large fleet of Airbus A320-family aircraft, most of which sport a traditional 3-3 configuration throughout the entire cabin, with business class consisting of the traditional blocked seats at the front of the cabin.

However, the carrier will retrofit its 8 A320neos with proper 2-2 business class seats at the front of the cabin. These seats are similar to those you’d find in a domestic first class cabin. They’re wider, offer far more pitch, and recline further.

Called Premium BIZ, there will be 8 seats at the front of each A320neo cabin. And on many routes, this new product will actually be offered in addition to the existing blocked-seat BIZclass product, which is found just behind.

Premium BIZ seats also offer a drink table and USB charging capability. Passengers flying on any route will receive a welcome drink, towel service, and nuts. On longer flights to Dubai, expect a pillow, blanket, amenity kit, and a full meal service.

Where Will Eurowings Premium BIZ Fly?

The new Premium BIZ product is being added to Eurowings’ flight schedule as of December 1, 2026, and will eventually be found on the following routes:

From Berlin (BER)

  • Dubai; daily flights
  • London (LHR); weekly flights
  • Mallorca (PMI); up to 4 weekly flights

From Cologne (CGN)

  • Dubai; 3 weekly flights

From Dusseldorf (DUS)

  • London; up to 4 daily flights
  • Malaga (AGP); 4 weekly flights
  • Mallorca; daily flights

From Stuttgart (STR)

  • Dubai; 4 weekly flights

The cost of a Premium BIZ seat varies by route and date, though expect fairly reasonable upcharges for the shorter intra-Europe routes between Germany and Spain, and higher costs on the longer routes to London and Dubai.

Hot Tip:

It’s now possible to book Eurowings flights through the Air Canada Aeroplan program, which is good news for travelers with transferable points.

Final Thoughts

Eurowings is rolling out a proper business class product across its fleet of Airbus A320neo jets. Admittedly, it’s a bit strange that the Lufthansa Group’s low-cost carrier is doing this before any of the full-service carriers in the conglomerate, but we are nevertheless pleased to see it happening.

Hopefully, this is the beginning of a trend among even more European carriers.
