AI is officially shaking up the way travelers plan trips. OpenAI has launched an app ecosystem inside ChatGPT, and 2 of the first major players to join are Expedia and Booking.com. That means you can now start a conversation in ChatGPT and ask for hotels, flights, or trip ideas without leaving the platform.

For travelers, this new integration makes searching for hotels, flights, and trip details more conversational than ever, but does it really make sense to book this way? Let’s take a closer look.

How the Expedia and Booking.com ChatGPT Apps Work

Expedia’s app inside ChatGPT makes planning more conversational and less about scrolling through endless lists.

With these new integrations, travelers can now plan trips inside ChatGPT in a more conversational way. Instead of scrolling through long lists or playing with filters, you can simply type something like, “Expedia find me hotels in New York, October 12–15.”

ChatGPT will pull in Expedia’s app to show live results with pricing, photos, and availability. You can browse properties directly in the chat, then click through to Expedia to finish booking. Once confirmed, your reservations appear in the “Trips” section of your Expedia account.

Booking.com works much the same way. After enabling the app through the ChatGPT Connectors page, you can ask natural questions like, “Show me family-friendly hotels in Orlando next weekend.” ChatGPT will then display Booking.com listings with rates and photos. When you’re ready, you’ll be taken straight to Booking.com to finalize the stay.

To get started, all you need to do is add the Expedia or Booking.com app from the ChatGPT Connectors page, then start a new conversation. From there, just ask a travel question and the apps will surface results directly in the chat.

AI has come a long way. ChatGPT can now show live pricing and travel options wherever you want. It’s a great tool for research, but when it’s time to book, we’d still go straight to the airline or hotel.

Hot Tip:

While having Expedia and Booking.com inside ChatGPT makes it easier to compare hotels and flights, you’re still usually better off booking directly with the airline or hotel. Direct bookings often come with better customer service and more flexible options if plans change — something OTAs can’t always guarantee.

Final Thoughts

Having Expedia and Booking.com inside ChatGPT gives us a peek at the future of travel planning — more conversational, more AI-driven, and less about scrolling through endless menus and filters. It’s a handy tool for exploring options. However, when it comes time to actually book, going directly with the airline or hotel is still your best bet.
