Has it been too long since your last churro with chocolate? Or perhaps you’re just antsy for a $2 glass of Cava? Whatever the reason, we’ve got you covered with cheap fares from the West Coast all the way to Spain.
Let’s take a look.
Fare Deal — Details
You’ll find these routes operated by a variety of carriers, including ITA Airways, Italy’s flag carrier. These are economy fares with a layover, but at less than $500 apiece, you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything cheaper.
- Class: Economy
- Routes: Las Vegas (LAS), Los Angeles (LAX), San Diego (SAN), San Francisco (SFO), San Jose (SJC), and Phoenix (PHX) to Madrid (MAD)
- Dates: February 2023 to March 2023, September 2023 to December 2023
- Rates: As low as $449
The cheapest rates we found featured flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Madrid (MAD):
You’ll also find options from Las Vegas (LAS), although you’ll need to pay a bit more:
Even TAP Portugal is getting in on this sale with routes from San Francisco (SFO):
There’s a pretty decent range of dates for these flights, though, as expected, they jump up pretty dramatically during the summer season.
Best Ways To Book
Generally speaking, you’ll find the cheapest prices for flights when booking with an online travel agency (OTA). However, you’ll want to be wary when choosing to do so. OTAs are notoriously unreliable when it comes to flight changes or cancellations. Instead, consider booking directly with the airline if it’s not too much more — they’ll be much more likely to help you out in the event things go awry.
If opting for a direct booking, use a card that’ll maximize your spend, such as The Platinum Card® from American Express. The card earns 5x Membership Rewards points on bookings directly with the airline or through Amex Travel (up to $500,000 in purchases per calendar year). We value Amex points at 2.2 cents apiece, which means the 2,235 points you’d earn from that ITA Airways booking would be worth nearly $50!

Final Thoughts
Don’t let people tell you that travel isn’t cheap. With this fare sale, you’ll pay less than $500 for a roundtrip ticket from the West Coast to Spain. At that rate, how could you choose not to go?
