After 11 long years, Finland’s flag carrier Finnair will once again serve Canada’s largest city when flights between Helsinki and Toronto resume next May.

“We are excited to grow our North American network and bring Canada back as a destination. Toronto is a popular travel destination and offers especially our European customers great connections also to other parts of Canada,” said Christine Rovelli, Finnair’s chief revenue officer.

Let’s take a look at all the details of this returning route.

Finnair Adds Flights From Helsinki to Toronto

Finnair last served Toronto (YYZ) from its Helsinki (HEL) hub in 2015, so the airline’s return to Canada will have been over a decade in the making when flights resume on May 4, 2026.

Finnair will offer 3 weekly flights between the cities during the summer season according to the following schedule:

  • Depart Toronto (YYZ) at 11:40 p.m. and arrive in Helsinki (HEL) at 2:45 p.m. (+1) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays
  • Depart Helsinki (HEL) at 4:50 p.m. and arrive in Toronto (YYZ) at 6:35 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays

Flights will be operated by the carrier’s Airbus A330 aircraft, which feature its innovative “no-recline” business class seat along with premium economy and economy cabins.

Finnair says flights are timed to facilitate easy connections to its robust network of European destinations. The carrier particularly highlighted the ease of connecting to its Delhi (DEL) route, which is a smart move on Finnair’s part, considering the high levels of travel between Toronto and the Indian subcontinent.

Once this route resumes, Finnair will serve a total of 7 cities in North America, including Chicago (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Los Angeles (LAX), New York (JFK), Miami (MIA), Seattle (SEA), and Toronto.

If this new flight piques your interest, it’s easier than ever to find award tickets on Finnair flights now that award search aggregator Roame.Travel has added the Finnair Plus program to its search capabilities. However, at the time of writing, it appears that flights are not yet on sale, so you’ll have to wait a bit before you can actually start planning your trip.
