Greyhound has announced a fleet of 60 brand-new buses as it plans to upgrade its aging fleet in the next few years.

Let’s take a look!

Greyhound Adds Passenger-Friendly Upgrades to New Buses

Greyhound is rolling out dozens of new buses, some already deployed to popular cities like Boston, New York, and Philadelphia.

Here are the passenger-friendly upgrades Greyhound is adding to its new fleet:

  • Lumbar support, footrests, and drink holders
  • Free Wi-Fi and 12V outlets at each seat
  • New flooring, quieter cabin designs, and an improved HVAC system
  • On-board cameras for driver and rider safety

“With redesigned interiors and state-of-the-art safety features, these buses are setting a new standard for bus travel in North America,” said Rodney Surber, chief operating officer at Greyhound. “Our goal is to make bus travel top of mind for long-distance travelers who want an eco-friendly and stress-free alternative to driving or flying.”

FlixBus, the budget German bus company, acquired Greyhound in October 2021. Today, Greyhound and Flixbus serve more than 1,800 destinations in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Over 12 million passengers ride with the 2 companies yearly.

Bottom Line:

Intercity bus travel is ramping back up post-pandemic, with an estimated 50 million riders traveling by bus in 2023.¹ But the industry is in peril. Coach USA, the most recognizable bus company in the U.S., filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. Coach USA owned Megabus, which has since shuttered several routes and passed on some routes to Peter Pan.

Earning Points and Miles on Bus Travel

While you might associate earning points and miles with flights, hotels, or rideshare, you can also earn rewards on bus travel.

Typically, bus travel falls under general travel or “other travel purchases.” That means you’ll want to book tickets using a credit card that rewards you for these travel purchases. Some of the best travel rewards cards for general or other travel purchases include:

Final Thoughts

While not as sexy as air travel, millions of Americans travel by bus yearly. These updates from Greyhound are excellent for riders, who will have a much more enjoyable experience thanks to new perks like quieter cabins and footrests.
