Hilton Honors has devalued award rates at a number of properties … again. This time, however, its top-tier hotels remain unchanged while some lower-tier properties are affected.

Unfortunately, this isn’t a surprise from Hilton, which has delivered several devaluations in the past year and multiple increases in award rates in recent years.

Here’s a look at the details and what you should know.

Hilton Devalues Award Nights at More Properties

Last year, Hilton Honors devalued several of its top properties worldwide, pushing rates as high as 250,000 points for a standard award night.

Mercifully, those rates haven’t gone any higher, but we’re now seeing a change in pricing lower-tier properties. It’s not the most severe we’ve seen, but it hurts nevertheless.

Reddit users have cited multiple instances of base rates increasing overnight and without warning, and we’ve independently confirmed the rates. Here’s what we’re seeing:

As a reminder, Hilton doesn’t publish award charts and instead uses a dynamic pricing model, making it hard to track base rates at specific properties. This means there may be many more properties involved in this latest devaluation, but there’s no way to know for certain unless you’ve been keeping an eye on a specific hotel to notice pricing changes.

This is also a good reminder not to wait to redeem your points, especially with a program like Hilton Honors, which frequently devalues points without warning. If you have the points in your account and see a redemption you’d like to make, especially if you can find base-level availability, don’t hesitate to do so. You can always cancel your plans should you need to, and there’s no saying when the property you’re looking at could be hit with another price hike.

Final Thoughts

Hilton has increased award rates again, though this time it hasn’t affected its top-tier properties; instead, it’s hit some lower-tier hotels.

It’s disappointing to see yet another devaluation from Hilton, which seems to do this multiple times each year. Nevertheless, it’s a good reminder for everyone with Hilton Honors points to use them as soon as possible to protect against another inevitable increase in award rates.
