Major Properties Get Reflagged

Los Angeles Icon Joins Hilton

The famed Mondrian Los Angeles, a mainstay on the Sunset Strip since the late nineties, is no longer. It has been reflagged as the Valorian Los Angeles, Curio Collection by Hilton. Besides the name change, guests won’t notice many differences now that the property has become part of Hilton Honors, besides the ability to earn and redeem Hilton Honors points for stays.

Hyatt Lands Next to Niagara Falls

Located on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls, the former Embassy Suites Niagara Falls has been rebranded as the Hyatt Regency Niagara Falls Fallsview and is now open to guests. The property features newly renovated guest rooms and suites, along with incredible views of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls and American Falls.

Upcoming Hotels

The Standard, Austin

Austin’s South Congress Hotel will reopen as The Standard, Austin, in the spring of 2027. This is the latest in a steady stream of expansion for the brand, which has recently opened properties in London, Ibiza, Bangkok, and Brussels, with hotels on the way in Mexico City and Lisbon. The Standard, Austin, will feature a rooftop restaurant and “world-class restaurants and bars.”

Marriott Signs Deal for 9 Properties in Greece

Marriott is expanding in Greece, adding almost 1,000 rooms across 9 properties in the coming years. This expansion will also bring the Residence Inn and Le Méridien brands to the country for the first time. The new properties will span the entire country, from its capital, Athens, to the popular island of Crete and smaller islands such as Paros and Sifnos.

Hotel Growth in Africa

Radisson Hotel Group says it has more than 100 hotels open or under development across Africa. More are on the way, too, with 15 new hotels and more over 2,500 rooms coming, including debuts in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Hilton has over 100 hotels planned in Africa, adding to its 80 present hotels. With 29 new signings in 15 countries, Hilton will debut in Gabon and make a major push in sub-Saharan Africa.

Final Thoughts

It was another busy week across the hotel industry. We saw exciting openings in Saudi Arabia, Cape Verde, and Vietnam, and there are upcoming hotels in Austin, Texas, and Greece to look forward to.

We’ll be back here next week with more hotel industry news.
