Hotel News

First Ruby Hotel Property Bookable Through IHG

Last year, InterContinental Hotels Group acquired Ruby, a “premium urban brand” with a handful of hotels across Europe. The first property, the Ruby Lucy Hotel London, opened and is bookable through IHG’s channels. You’ll find award rates from 30,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.

As Loyalty Lobby flagged, the benefits for Ruby hotels are pretty limited, as confirmable suite upgrades and upgrade benefits aren’t available.

Marriott and IHG Growth Plans

Marriott announced plans to add 2,700 rooms in Saudi Arabia, including 5 new properties in Jedda, Makkah, and Madinah. This will include the first Four Points Flex by Sheraton in the Kingdom. An opening timeline is unknown.

Meanwhile, IHG hopes to scale up in India, aiming for 400 open and in-progress properties within 5 years. Presently, the brand only has 50 open hotels and 80 in development.

A New Maldives Resort

It’s not every week hotels open in the Maldives, but the Eri Maldives opened with an “eco-chic living” approach and no need for a plane transfer. It’s a 45-minute boat ride from Malé.

Final Thoughts

There were more rebrandings than actual openings this week, but they were still pretty exciting. An ultra-luxury InterContinental in Cape Town is now bookable with points, while a 5-star hotel in Amsterdam joined the Mandarin Oriental umbrella.

We’ll be back here next week with more news from across the hotel industry.
