There was a flurry of hotel news this week, from Ennismore’s Mondrian brand opening a gorgeous new hotel in Australia to Shangri-La opening an affordable new hotel in China.

Hotel Openings

Mondrian Gold Coast, Australia

The swanky Mondrian brand is growing in Australia. Ennismore recently opened the Mondrian Gold Coast. This hotel features 208 guest rooms in various room types, including 132 studios, 63 suites, 10 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom homes, a pair of 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom beach houses, and a sky house. Some room types even include private plunge pools.

Amenities include an all-day Italian restaurant, a lobby bar, a seafood restaurant, a pool club, a spa, and meeting spaces.

The Silk Lakehouse, Shangri-La Hangzhou, China

Shangri-La Signatures is a new line from the eponymous brand. It has opened its first location, The Silk Lakehouse, Shangri-La Hangzhou, located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The hotel features just 68 guest rooms and suites, complete with amenities like 4 restaurants, an indoor pool, and in-room mindfulness exercises.

Upcoming Hotels

Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa, United Kingdom (Late 2025)

Lucknam Park will become Accor’s first Emblems property. Located in Bath, Wiltshire, this 5-star country house hotel features 42 rooms and 9 ultra-luxe cottages, along with a range of amenities including a Michelin-starred restaurant, a spa, an equestrian center, and 500 acres of parkland. 

Emblems Collection is a group of luxury hotels selected for their charismatic character. They are known for a high emphasis on culture, creativity, and craftsmanship.

InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate, United Kingdom (2027)

IHG announced this week that it had inked a deal for the InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate. This will be the fifth InterContinental in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The hotel will have 264 rooms and is expected to be rebranded by 2027. It will feature a bar and restaurant, an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and a fitness center. 

Holiday Inn Ahmedabad, India (2028)

Holiday Inn is expanding in India with the announcement of Holiday Inn Ahmedabad, scheduled to open in 2028. It will have 150 guest rooms and suites, 3 dining options, a ballroom, a fitness center, and a swimming pool.

Hilton Opens Hilton Garden Inn · Gen A Properties in China

Hilton has debuted a new brand in several Chinese cities. The first Hilton Garden Inn · Gen A hotels have opened in Chongqing, Sanya, and Harbin. Hilton Garden Inn · Gen A is a brand prototype Hilton created specifically for the Chinese market, meant to meet the “emotional and functional needs of today’s traveler.” 

“Targeting core urban centers and high-potential cultural and tourism destinations deepens our network in China as we aim to serve ever more business and leisure travelers,” said Clarence Tan, senior vice president of Asia Pacific development at Hilton.

  • Hilton Garden Inn Chongqing Yubei Central Park: This hotel has 276 guest rooms and suites, a fitness center, a restaurant, and is less than 15 minutes from both Chongqing Yuelai International Expo Center and Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (CKG). Rates start at $54 or 16,000 Hilton Honors points per night.
  • Hilton Garden Inn Sanya Haitang Bay: This hotel features free parking, complimentary WiFi, a children’s playground, a restaurant, and a fitness center. Rates start at $55 or 14,000 Hilton Honors points per night.
  • Hilton Garden Inn Harbin Haxi: This property offers an on-site restaurant and bar, event rooms, and a fitness center. Rates start at $55 or 14,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

IHG’s voco Brand Hits 100 Properties, 3 New Hotels Open

IHG announced this week that it had 100 voco hotels open in 25 countries worldwide. The voco brand launched in 2018, quickly establishing itself as a premium brand offering accommodations that are “reliably different.” 

voco recently opened 3 new hotels in Asia and the United States. Let’s take a look:

  • voco Guilin Yangshuo (China): This hotel has 73 guest rooms. Amenities include a Cantonese-Guangxi fusion restaurant, a fitness center, a pool, and a spa. Rates start at $172 or 25,000 IHG One Rewards per night.
  • voco Quang Binh Resort by IHG (Vietnam): This is voco’s first resort. Offering 68 suites and beachfront villas, the resort also includes a spa, an indoor and outdoor pool, a pool bar, a fitness center, and an all-day restaurant. Rates start at $113 or 17,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.
  • voco The Shelby (South Carolina): Billed as voco’s first beachfront property in the U.S., voco The Shelby will have 241 guest rooms, many with private balconies. The hotel will also have several dining options and a lazy river. Rates start at $140 or 26,000 IHG One Rewards points per night.

Additionally, there are 95 voco hotels in the pipeline, and IHG plans to grow the brand to 200 properties worldwide by 2028.

Aman’s New Janu Brand Coming to Turks & Caicos

Aman Hotels and Resorts is one of the world’s most exclusive hotel brands, known for luxurious, serene settings and world-class accommodations. Aman plans to open a Janu hotel, its new brand, in Turks & Caicos with Janu Turks & Caicos. Not much is known about the resort — including when it’ll open — but it’ll offer dining, a beach club, a spa and wellness center, and a 164-foot swimming pool — all set along the shores of an 18,000-acre nature reserve.

Janu currently has one hotel open, the Janu Tokyo, with 122 rooms and suites. Future locations include Dubai, the Maldives, and South Korea.

Final Thoughts

The second week of June started off strong, with several new hotels opening in Australia and China, plus several more planned for the U.K., India, and Turks & Caicos.
