It was another exciting and busy week in the hotel industry. Several new resorts are coming to exciting destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America, plus a slew of hotels have opened in destinations like Crete, the United Kingdom, and Seattle.

You may have missed a lot this week, so read on for our roundup of the most exciting hotel news.

Hotel Openings

Rocca a Mare Heraklion – Handwritten Collection, Greece

The boutique Rocca a Mare Heraklion – Handwritten Collection offers just 36 sea-view rooms and suites. You can spend the day lounging at this Crete resort’s rooftop bar and pool, dine at the on-site restaurant, or work up a sweat at the fitness center. Like most luxury hotels, Rocca a Mare Heraklion will offer a spa. However, it won’t open until next year.

Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, A Verified Net Zero Hotel, United Kingdom

Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, A Verified Net Zero Hotel, has opened with 252 guest rooms and suites. Amenities include a bar and restaurant, a spa, an indoor pool, a sauna, a steam room, and a gym.

If you aren’t familiar with it, to become a Net Zero hotel, the property must commit to using 100% renewable energy. This can be achieved by using electricity only or by purchasing 100% renewable energy for all hotel functions.

1 Hotel Seattle, Washington State

1 Hotel is planting its flag in Seattle with the opening of the 1 Hotel Seattle, located minutes from exciting destinations like the waterfront, the Space Needle, and Pike Place Market. 1 Hotel Seattle offers 153 guest rooms, including 45 suites. The hotel’s signature restaurant is helmed by a James Beard Award finalist, and other options include a café and a bar. Other amenities include a fitness center and pet-friendly accommodations.

Upcoming Hotels

Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown (October 2025)

Hyatt is boosting its presence in Malaysia with a new hotel coming to the capital city, Kuala Lumpur, this fall. Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown will boast 306 guest rooms, suites, and residences. The hotel will offer 5 dining options, including Chinese and Japanese fare, and a rooftop bar. Other amenities include a fitness center, a pool, a kids’ club, and the signature Regency Lounge.

The hotel is scheduled to open for guests in October 2025. Like many hotels in Asia — even luxury ones — the Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown is extremely affordable with World of Hyatt points. When it opens, it will be a Category 2 hotel, meaning award nights here start at just 6,500 points per night for off-peak dates and up to 9,500 points per night on peak dates. 

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico (Late 2025)

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico is a conversion of The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort (which is still open for guests under the Marriott flag). The hotel will offer 2 miles of dedicated beach space, 2 swimming pools, 2 fitness centers, a spa with 10 treatment rooms, children’s programming, and a petting zoo.

Hot Tip:

The resort is scheduled for a late 2025 opening, and rates start at around $1,600 nightly. If you want to book the resort while it’s still a Marriott, cash rates start at $950 per night, while Marriott Bonvoy awards start at 82,000 points per night. The resort is still bookable with Marriott Bonvoy points through November 3, 2025.

Alila Mayakoba, Mexico (Late 2025)

As we reported earlier this year, the Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya in Mexico is closed as it undergoes renovations. We now know what those renovations entail: an entirely new brand. The former Andaz will become the Alila Mayakoba.

The resort, which will open in late 2025, will introduce “redesigned guest rooms, elegant suites and enhanced wellness experiences,” plus a new spa and temazcal, a traditional Mexican steam bath.

The St. Regis Papagayo, Costa Rica (2027)

Marriott announced this week that it had inked a deal for The St. Regis Papagayo. Located along 20 hectares on the Gulf of Papagayo in Costa Rica’s Guanacaste region, the resort is expected to open in early 2027.

It will offer 120 hotel rooms and 143 residential units, 6 dining options, a private beach, the signature St. Regis Library, several swimming pools, a spa, and an exclusive beach club.

IHG Expanding in Australia With New Luxury Hotels

IHG appears to have big plans for Australia, with several hotels in the country being “rebranded and repositioned.” On May 21, IHG said that 3 existing hotels would be converted into InterContinental hotels

The Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach will convert to the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach, the Crowne Plaza Melbourne to InterContinental Melbourne, and the Crowne Plaza Canberra site will be redeveloped into the new InterContinental Canberra.

Finally, the high-end Regent brand is making a comeback in Australia after nearly 3 decades. The Regent Melbourne will convert from the InterContinental Melbourne in 2030.

Tru by Hilton Unveiling a ‘Refreshed Prototype’

Tru by Hilton has nearly 300 open locations across the Americas and Asia, catering to the cost-conscious, millennial market. The brand is known for basic accommodations at an affordable price point. Hilton announced a “refreshed prototype” of the Tru brand this week. These include a redesigned mobile rolling desk and better lighting in guest rooms, lobby area updates, microwaves, ice machines, and water bottle refill stations on every floor.

Wilde Aparthotels Expands In Europe

A fast-growing aparthotel brand in Europe is continuing its expansion with 3 new hotels in Lisbon, Vienna, and Cambridge. Here’s what to know about each new hotel:

  • Wilde Aparthotels, Cambridge City Centre: Located near the River Cam and Cambridge’s Jesus Green, this hotel has 229 apartments. Amenities include a bar with an outdoor terrace, a co-working space, and a café.
  • Wilde Aparthotels, Lisbon, Liberdade: Located in Lisbon’s R. Castilho district, Wilde Aparthotels, Lisbon, Liberdade features 95 guest rooms and studio apartments. Amenities include a bar and lounge, a café and deli, a courtyard, and a co-working space.
  • Wilde Aparthotels, Vienna, Alte Post: This hotel offers 136 guest rooms, studio apartments, and 1-bedroom apartments. Drawing on Vienna’s famed café culture, the hotel will also have a restaurant, café, and whiskey bar.

Final Thoughts

What a busy week it was in the hotel industry! A handful of new hotels and resorts opened in bustling destinations like Greece and Seattle, while several hotel chains have big plans for resorts in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and others.
