World of Hyatt’s Award Category Updates for 2024 – Full List of 183 Hotels [Book By March 26!]

It’s a new year, which sadly often means a new round of loyalty program devaluations. Last year, we saw 372 properties in the World of Hyatt program shift categories, but it was roughly a 58% to 42% split of properties increasing in price vs. properties decreasing in price, respectively.

This time around, only 183 hotels are changing in price. But the vast majority — 137 hotels to be exact — are increasing in price, while only 46 are decreasing in price.

These changes are set to take effect on March 26th, 2024, and many fan-favorite hotels are impacted, so this is your reminder to get these hotels booked before that date to lock in lower prices.

Here is a full look at Hyatt’s award category updates this year, as well as some guidance on what you should do to take advantage of current prices before March 26th, 2024.

Hyatt Award Category Changes 2024 Details

Here are a few important details to make note of.

All bookings before March 26th, 2024, will follow the current award pricing. Given that, if there are properties that you’ve had your eye on that are increasing in price, you’ll want to get those booked before the March 26, 2024, deadline.
Naturally, any booking made on or after March 26, 2024, will follow the updated pricing categories.
If you booked an award before March 26 and the hotel moves to a lower category, you will receive a refund for the difference.
If you booked an award before March 26 and the hotel moves to a higher category, you will not owe extra points.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at which hotels are moving categories.

U.S. Hyatt Hotels Moving Categories

There is, by far, the most activity happening to U.S. properties, with 64 hotels moving up a category, and 21 moving down a category.

Notably, travelers who love to use their Category 4 free night certificates for weekend trips to Boston, Chicago, San Diego, and Washington D.C will be sad to see that popular hotels in all those locations are increasing in price. Including the Thompson Chicago, the Grand Hyatt Washington, and the Hyatt Regency Boston.

Africa and Middle East Hyatt Hotels Moving Categories

The World of Hyatt footprint throughout Africa and the Middle East is certainly the smallest of all the featured regions, but of the hotels that are offered there, 7 are increasing a category while just 1 property is decreasing.

Canada, Caribbean, and Latin America Hyatt Hotels Moving Categories

In Canada, the Caribbean, and Latin America, 17 hotels are increasing in price while just 1 is decreasing in price.

Hotels increasing in price include favorites like the Park Hyatt Mendoza, and many of the Hyatt Ziva/Zilara properties like Cancun, Cap Cana, Rose Hall, Puerto Vallarta, and Los Cabos. Plus, the Andaz Costa Rica Papagayo, which was once 15,000 points not too long ago, will now cost a whopping 30,000 points per night.

Europe Hyatt Hotels Moving Categories

Lastly, there are 24 Hyatt hotels in Europe that are increasing in price and just 3 properties that are decreasing. Notably, properties increasing in price include the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Mediterranee, Hotel Du Palais Biarritz, as well as properties where you’ll no longer be able to use a Category 4 free night certificate like the Hyatt Centric Milan Centrale and The Tribune, part of JdV by Hyatt.

Final Thoughts

While there are some decent properties moving down in price, for the most part, these changes are largely negative.

Not only are many top-tier Category 6 and Category 7 properties getting 25% to 33% more expensive, respectively, but also many popular properties that provide excellent value for Category 4 Free Night Awards will now no longer be eligible.

If any of the 137 hotels increasing in price are properties that you have had your eye on, you’ll want to get your night booked before these hotels change prices on March 26, 2024.
