In 2023, World of Hyatt added a feature allowing members to gift awards to each other. Receiving a free night or upgrade award is a nice perk for improving your stay.

Unfortunately, the system has experienced a fair amount of fraud, and Hyatt will impose limits on these awards going forward.

You can still gift as many awards as you like. However, members will have a limit on the number of awards they can receive after June 7, 2025.

A Quick Overview on Hyatt’s Transferable Awards

There are multiple awards you can earn in the World of Hyatt program. These include Suite Upgrade Awards to confirm a suite in advance of your stay, Guest of Honor Awards to be treated like a top-tier Globalist elite during your stay (even if you don’t have that status), Club Access Awards (to visit the hotel’s lounge during your stay), and free night awards.

You can earn free night awards with Hyatt in several ways, while other awards are specifically available through Hyatt’s Milestone Rewards program, which provides choice benefits after a set number of stays each year.

These benefits can be incredibly valuable, offering complimentary perks such as upgraded rooms, daily breakfast, free parking, and more.

Hot Tip:

You can use most of these awards without a phone call. Here’s how to apply Suite Upgrade and Club Access Awards online.

World of Hyatt To Limit Award Transfers

As of June 7, 2025, World of Hyatt will limit the number of awards a member can receive annually, as Loyalty Lobby first reported. Members will only be able to receive 10 awards in a calendar year; there’s no limit on how many awards a member can gift.

Hyatt added the ability to gift awards in late 2023 while announcing program changes for 2024. Unfortunately, we’ve seen multiple reports of fraud with these awards, and Hyatt is taking action to limit it.

However, a limit of receiving 10 awards annually won’t affect most program members.

Final Thoughts

Starting June 7, 2025, World of Hyatt will introduce a cap on the number of awards a member can receive in a calendar year, limiting it to 10. For most travelers, this change won’t impact day-to-day activity, as it primarily affects a small group of highly active members.

It’s important to note that this limit only applies to receiving gifted awards — there’s no restriction on how many awards a member can give to others.
