Recently, the Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House and Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House closed for unexpected maintenance. Hyatt just announced that they will reopen next month as Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen.

Here’s what we know so far about this rebrand.

Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen

The decision to rebrand the Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House and Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House to Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen was a strategic move, based on the hotels’ locations in the heart of the city. The Hyatt Centric brand fits into the Hyatt hotel brand portfolio by focusing on centrally-located properties that offer guests a feel for the local area.

Given the location of these 2 hotels and the amenities offered, the switch from the Thompson Hotels brand to the Hyatt Centric brand makes sense.

Hot Tip:

According to the website, Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen is taking reservations beginning on December 1, 2024.

The hotel will continue to have 2 locations but will switch to just 1 name, which should help eliminate confusion. Guests will now have the option of booking a room in the Downtown House (formerly Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House) or the Beach House (formerly Thompson Playa del Carmen Beach House) all under 1 hotel name.

Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen Downtown House will continue to be an adults-only property. The focus of this location is the lively rooftop, which features UMI Urban Kitchen and the Alessia Dayclub with an infinity pool, a swim-up bar, and cabañas.

Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen Beach House is the beachfront option that welcomes guests of all ages. It features an oceanfront pool, 27 suites with views of the Caribbean Sea, and C Grill, a restaurant serving Caribbean and international flavors using local ingredients.

Bottom Line:

The Thompson Playa del Carmen hotels (Main House and Beach House) are being rebranded. They will reopen in December 2024 as Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen (Downtown House and Beach House).

How To Book Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen

Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen will continue to be a Category 4 property, costing 12,000 (off-peak), 15,000 (standard), or 18,000 (peak) points per night. Rooms in both the Downtown House and the Beach House are available to book on points, and it could be a good option for your Hyatt Category 1-4 free night certificates.

If you’re going to pay with cash instead of World of Hyatt points, rooms cost between $316 to $587 (before taxes) in January and February.

With the recent loss of Thompson properties near Hollywood and now these moves in Playa del Carmen, the only remaining Thompson property in the Americas that you can book with a Hyatt Category 1-4 free night is the Thompson Washington D.C.

Final Thoughts

The Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House and Beach House are being rebranded. These 2 hotels will reopen in December 2024 as the Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen. While there will still be 2 buildings, the Downtown House and the Beach House, they will be under a single name, which should help eliminate some confusion.

This change makes sense, as the hotel’s downtown location and amenities fit more in line with the Hyatt Centric brand than the Thompson brand.
