Iberia’s brand-new family accounts allow Club Iberia Plus members to pool their Avios into a single balance. This means you can add your Avios to any account member’s balance, making it easy to travel together and have Avios award bookings on the same reservation. This makes the process similar for families wanting to book and travel on the same reservations, where you can all stick together if something goes wrong, like a flight cancellation or change.

Dozens of airlines already offer family pooling, and now, you can finally pool your Avios within Iberia. Here’s what you need to know.

How To Use Iberia’s Family Accounts

Using Iberia‘s new family pooling feature, up to 7 people can combine their Avios into a single balance. You can then use these Avios to book award flights or redeem Avios for experiences like car rentals or hotel bookings.

Here’s how to set up your Iberia family pooling account.

Start by logging into Club Iberia (or creating a new account if you don’t already have one) and navigate to the family sharing page. Then, invite your family members or friends via their Club Iberia Plus numbers. Your family account will activate after at least 1 person you’ve invited accepts your invitation to join.

On the other hand, if you receive an invite to join, you have 7 days to accept it. To do so, you’ll need to enter the birth date of the person who invited you.

Before inviting friends and family members, talk to the people you’d like to invite. Make sure they’re all on board and ready to accept your invitation. Ensure they know your birth date and that you know their Club Iberia Plus numbers. Lastly, only add people you trust to the account since you’re about to share Avios with each other.

What To Know About Iberia’s Family Accounts

Once everyone is a member, you can enjoy both the existing Avios available (Avios each member had before they joined), as well as any Avios you earn in the future. These will all be placed into a shared balance.

Do note that each member must remain within the account for at least 12 months after joining. Otherwise, you’ll have to justify your exit with Iberia’s customer service. In our experience, easy and successful interactions with Iberia’s customer service are far and few between, so be absolutely sure you’re prepared to remain in the family account for at least a year before you join.

The Avios in the family account won’t expire if at least one member has Plata elite status, and there are no age restrictions, so every member of the family, including kids, can be part of the family account.

Iberia’s family pooling isn’t limited to just family members. There aren’t any kinship restrictions, so you can pool your Avios with your best friend, your neighbor, or whomever you’d like. Just make sure you’re willing to share your points with whoever you add.
