It looks like travelers who carry the IHG One Rewards Premier Business Credit Card may be getting a valuable upgrade to one of the card’s most popular benefits.

Beginning in 2027, the IHG Premier Business card’s anniversary free night certificate will be redeemable at IHG Hotels and Resorts that cost up to 50,000 points per night — up from the current 40,000-point limit.

Here’s everything you need to know about the changes and what it means for travelers.

IHG Premier Business Card Free Night Cap Increasing to 50,000 Points

The IHG Premier Business card is an excellent hotel rewards card that often flies under the radar. It offers solid earnings, particularly at IHG Hotels and Resorts, and provides numerous benefits, including IHG One Rewards Platinum Elite status and the ability to get your fourth night free on all award stays.

Arguably, its most valuable perk is that it also provides a free night certificate that can be used for a free night at any IHG hotel that costs up to 40,000 points per night.

However, that looks set to change. According to emails sent to cardholders, including Upgraded Points team members, the IHG Premier Business card’s anniversary free night certificate will be redeemable at IHG Hotels and Resorts that cost up to 50,000 points per night beginning in 2027.

Free night certificates issued through December 31, 2026, will keep the existing 40,000-point cap.

What This Means for Travelers

For travelers, the immediate takeaway is good news. Though 10,000 points may not seem like a lot in the grand scheme of things, it’s always nice to see a win when so many other things are being devalued.

Chase’s email to cardholders didn’t mention any changes to the card’s annual fee, which is also good news. This enhanced benefit makes the card even easier to justify.

However, with news like this, there is almost always a downside. A higher certificate cap could be an early indication of an impending devaluation.

IHG’s One Rewards program doesn’t use a traditional fixed award chart; award prices fluctuate considerably based on hotel demand. Raising the certificate cap could simply be a way to keep the benefit useful as award prices continue to rise.

Final Thoughts

The IHG Premier Business card is increasing its annual free night certificate from 40,000 points to 50,000 points at the start of 2027. For now, cardholders should view this as a positive change.

However, while this looks like a positive development on the surface, the bigger question is whether IHG is increasing the limit for the free night certificate to give customers more value or because it knows that 40,000 points will simply not go as far in the future — a sign of an impending devaluation.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens between now and January 1 for more context on this change.
