IHG has debuted the luxury InterContinental brand in Auckland, New Zealand — and it’s a steal with points.

Here’s what you need to know about the new property and how to book it on points!

Intercontinental Auckland Opens Its Doors

InterContinental Auckland has 139 guest rooms and suites with city and harbor views. The hotel is located on the city’s waterfront, offering easy access to shopping and dining, and is a 30-minute drive from Auckland Airport (AKL).

Amenities include the Advieh restaurant, serving Middle Eastern cuisine, a fitness center, dry cleaning pickup/laundry valet services, and a rooftop bar slated to open later this year.

Additionally, the hotel will feature a club lounge, with the Club InterContinental Lounge debuting this June.

IHG has 4 other hotels in Auckland, mostly comprised of mid-tier brands such as Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and voco. The InterContinental is the first high-end IHG brand to debut in Auckland.

If you aren’t familiar, InterContinental is 1 of IHG’s premier offerings and is considered the world’s first international luxury hotel brand. InterContinental is known for high-end service and world-class dining. You’ll find more than 200 InterContinental hotels worldwide in destinations such as Dubai, New York, and the Maldives. An additional 99 hotels are in the pipeline.

How to Book the Intercontinental Auckland

InterContinental Auckland is now open as of January 30. The hotel is participating in the IHG One Rewards program, which means you can earn and redeem points during your stay.

The hotel is moderately priced whether you’re paying with cash or using IHG One Rewards points. Cash stays this April start around $230 per night, while award nights start at 39,000 points for a king room.

Like many major hotel chains, IHG doesn’t use an award chart but has adopted variable pricing. That means award nights can be higher or lower depending on factors such as availability and dates.

Hot Tip:

To celebrate the hotel’s opening, InterContinental Auckland is offering complimentary breakfast for 2 and a bottle of vintage sparkling wine when you book a stay. Take a look at this link for more details.

It’s extremely easy to earn IHG One Rewards points, as you can transfer Bilt Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards to IHG at a 1:1 ratio. You can also earn points through a welcome bonus or daily spending on some of the best cards for IHG loyalists.

Final Thoughts

Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city, so it makes sense that IHG would open an InterContinental in the heart of the city. While small, the hotel offers some great amenities, such as a fitness center and Club InterContinental, at a reasonable price with points or cash making this hotel a sweet spot for IHG loyalists!
